I'm trying to put in coordinates from Google maps to my garmin camper, but it won't accept them .does anyone know what coordinates setting I should be using.
I've tried several in the menu but not work🤷‍♂️
Thanks in advance

It's easy to convert Deg mins and seconds to decimal degrees.
Try this

Or the other way round.

Hope this helps.
Your satnav maybe changed in settings to decimal degrees.

I bought a Garmin 780 sat nav a few weeks ago and find it tricky to use sometimes after using mostly google maps.
If you have a road name and house number then no problem.
But I missed the ability to select a point on a map and navigate to that as with gm.
What I do now is use google maps to select where I want to go then click on the place. This puts down a pin and gives the gps coordinates, press on the coordinates and this copies them to your clipboard.
Open Garmin Drive app, available from playstore. Click on 'Where To' and paste the coordinates and send to device.
Your Garmin will now calculate the route.
This seems to work for me as I was initially disappointed with the Garmin and the difficulty getting all the points of interest I have marked in gm onto the Garmin

You can change the coordinates format, go to coordinates and then touch spanner , top left and then Coordinates format and choose which makes what you need

I have used what3words to find a particular place then select ‘navigate’ which allows Garmin Drive as an option. This then sends the location to the Garmin 780 when I get in MH and it connects.

Sussed it ,on the west coordinates I have to put
00 before entering the rest 👍
Thanks for the help😊👍
Wouldn't you find it more reliable to send them with Garmin Drive ?
Mind you I think I'm a bit dyslexic with numbers, 775 often ends up as 755 etc so I might end up anywhere, lol

Do you use searchforsites, if so download the app and you only need to enter the reference number starting with the letter S, much easier than putting in co ordinates.

I tried that but did not work,
I must have done something wrong.
First time I've used coordinates in the moho.
We've used the trip planner on the Garmin for the first time for this trip. So all new to me .
Trip is all planned using coordinates 👍
We'll see where we end up🤣🤣

You need to download the sites to your satnav first.

On the Search for Sites home page, look for 'Downloads'

I must be missing something. How do you send from what three words to garmin drive?

Apologies, I may not have given enough guidance. Just checked now:

Using what3words on my phone I find the place or lay-by I want to go to, click on it to get the what3words address and then at the bottom of the screen I select the Navigate option. Then a pop-up appears headed Get Directions and Drive (aka Garmin Drive) is one of the options. Selecting this option should then open Garmin Drive and give the option Send to Device. This should be all you need to do but I must admit when I just tried it didn’t give me the Send to and I had to go back to what3words and open Drive again and it worked fine.

I hope this helps, please ask if you need any more.

I just type them straight into the normal search box without N, E, W, Lat, or Long, or going to the Coordinates setting, just the numbers.
Example 50.84690 2.89812
That’s Ypres camping at Jeugdstadion.

I must be above averagely stupid! The Garmin Drive app does not appear as one of the navigation options. This is on an iPhone 10 with latest IOS. Just in case I also tried it on my less than year old iPad with the same result. I wonder if there is a setting somewhere?

No, I don’t think you are stupid !. Whilst it works fine using an Android phone I was interested to see that you have an iPhone. Having installed Garmin Drive and What3words on my iPad I can see what you mean. I’m wondering if Apple have blocked this navigation option and insist on using Apple maps.

I will try and find a solution over the next few days now I have some free time and will update on here.

Thanks, I really thought I was losing it! I will bang off a support question to garmin in the morning and will report back if they tell me anything useful. I am not holding my breath though :-(

Ok, I think I have it. Obvious, its an Apple! Only works in Apple Maps! Could you try yours?

I use the freeware https://www.myrouteapp.com originally developed for use with m/bikes it allows you to design a custom route using GPS, addresses, points of interest etc. and download the route to your Garmin or Tom-tom. IT can take a bit of getting used to but once you're up to speed it's a lot easier. GPS units are great for getting from A to B via the quickest, cheapes or shortest route but are useless at scenic routes.

Thanks! Frustratingly however it doesn't seem possible to do that on our travels, without a Windows machine to unzip and upload the data.

Not sure what browser you are using but the Google chrome works much better than safari downloading and opening the file.
