Just returned from France using our Garmin 780 Camper sat nav - inputted all of the correct MH size details and set onto fastest route. We wanted to avoid motorways from the Creuse region so set the sat nav accordingly expecting it to take us onto the N roads but it didn't....all it did was stick us onto D roads and took us so far off the logical route I was wondering whether it has an issue or if anyone else has experienced anything similar..? We've also had similar issues when heading to the folks down in the New Forest so not just France.

It's worth mentioning our MH is only 6.5m L so hardly big by todays standards - and the sat nav is updated regularly too.

Any comments gratefully received before I throw it in the bin!

I use the same sat nav and have found eto be mostly ok but I do check (when I remember) the route as they can all do odd things from time to time.
Can't help with any specifics as to why it should do that though 😕

Do you have any other 'avoids' set?

Eg Ours once took us on a right goose chase after I missed a turn and subsequently found it had 'no U turns' set.

I did subsequently get rid of it though.

Ah you may have a point as I do have that set! I will alter that setting and see how it performs. Thanks very much(y)

I forgot to add.

When I set mine to 'allow U turns' I have a recollection that when I did a software up date on it the setting reverted to not allowing them which needed setting back again.

Use Basecamp/Mapsource create your own routes..
I tried this When I had a Garmin 760. All went well until we had to divert off the motorway, it couldnt reroute after that other than as the crows fly. One of the reasons I gave up on it.
Other reason was same as OP, the satnav often avoided roads which were easily doable in a 44t HGV.

I have no answer to this I'm afraid, but both of my Garmin satnavs work OK using Mapsource, and both recalculate if going off route.
