Hi all, I have just received my Fulli tag prior to my first trip abroad (France and Spain) in my MH. I have looked on here and also the Fulli website with regard to positioning of the tag and all say to place it with in the dark, dotted "Thermal Zone".

However, it would appear that I do not have a dark dotted thermal zone as such, just a blacked out area behind where the rear view mirror would have been that has a very, very small dotted area around it. It has some sort of coating on the glass, on the inside. My thoughts are to place it there anyway but im concerned that whatever this coating is, it will block the signal from being read / received at the peage barriers.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did you place yours in the blacked out zone and did it still work fine? and does it really matter if it is a "thermal Zone" or not? Surely it would still work?

I have attached a couple of pics to show what im talking about.

Many thanks.

Rick.

Had the same issue as you so positioned the Fulli tag just to the left of the rear view mirror position (where the windscreen mounted piece of kit is in your photo) making allowances for any external overhang, and it worked without any problems. As long as it has line of sight to the cameras on approach to the barrier it should be fine.

If you can’t place it in a non thermal area then wave it out of the window at the receiver or mount it on the roof

The thermal zone will probably block the signal

Thanks for the replies and suggestions everyone.
Does anyone know what the black coated film is? I’m guessing if the vehicle had a rear view mirror shaped “electronic screen “ instead of a standard glass rear view mirror then maybe it was applied as some sort of protection against direct sunlight onto the rear of the rear view screen. However, nothing has ever been fitted onto the screen there. 🤷‍♂️

Had same question, ive mounted on the solid black section, stuck the tag direct to the screen without the little bracket as remis blind wouldn't close otherwise. Not been to continent yet but the m6 toll detects the tag fine (and informs me incorrect tag detected as expected)

The black dots are an area of the screen which is non thermal in other words it’s just glass and will allow radio signals to pass through. If you don’t have an area available which looks like what the op screen looks like you may struggle with a tag as the tolls. So just take the tag and hold it outside the side window

The black dots are usually ceramic frit, applied in the heating process of the glass screen production and are baked on.

Hi.

Had the same issue when used in my car. No black space left. Placed the bracket and device just below the black shaded area on clear glass (where you can see the heated screen wires) and it worked perfectly without fault - even driving through the 30kph lanes.

Yep, just place it as near as possible to the shaded area, it'll work fine.

Ours is exactly the same. We placed it to the left of the mirror position right on the edge of the black bit, it works fine. I did hold it up in that position as we approached the first toll just to be sure and then stuck it there. No problems at all.

Hi again everyone and thanks for the replies. i guess the sensible thin g to do is to wait until I get to the first peage then hold it to the blacked out panel, if it still works as suggested it will then thats where it stays, if not then its on to the clear glass next tot the panel.

As an aside, if there any Fiat Techs or sales people on here, maybe you could tell us what the purpose of this blacked out area is for? It is some kind of paint or matt coating, not very smooth and applied to the inside of the screen, not sandwiched between the glass, with the nut and bolt attached!!

Cheers all.

Rick.

Mine is place on the black area around mirror
No issues in France and Italy when we went the other year. So whatever the blackout area is it does not stop the signal getting through

So as an aside, does anyone have any ideas to cover the steel bolt head that the mirror fits to in the OP’s photo (or mine in post #16?

My suggestion would be to select the most promising location and hold (if you or passenger can reach) or more safely sellotape the device in place. Try the first toll and if it works stick holder there next time you can safely stop . If not hold it out side window to work the barrier then try another location until a permanent home found??

as far as I know, the blacked out area, which is normally behind the rearview mirror, is to shade the sun in that annoying area where the sun visors have a gap in coverage. Now, the area has increased as not only the mirrors are mounted there, but also the various driver aid and other sensors.
