Starting to understand
Ducato coachbuilt motorhome, girlfriend had low fuel light come on, on way to fill up with fuel, filled up the tank & started driving home, realised the low fuel light was still on & the gauge was registering on empty!!! Is it likely to be the sender unit? If it is, does anyone know how to fix it? Many thanks. Ken

Errm. She did put the fuel in the diesel tank and not the water tank (caps look similar) didn't she..........?

T'would be the second misfueling I've heard of today.

To get the sender out you will most likely need to drop the tank which will mean emptying it first.

Quick question it was the fuel tank that was filled not the fresh water one?

Isn't the sender unit & tank access between the front seats under a panel?
There is an access point under the removable floor covering

Sometimes these things start to work again after a couple of restarts - or get a garage to check for any error codes in the dashboard or body module

Try dipping the fuel tank to see how full it is.

I would try disconnecting battery for a couple of minutes, i had similar on my work van after starter motor failed and disconnecting battery for a couple of minutes sorted it

yes,
edit if you remove the electrical connector you will end up with a error light on the dashboard that you need a good obd2 to reset.

Older vans had an earthing issue. Added a new battery to engine block cable sorted a lot of gremlins for me inuding fluctuating gauges. Some people also resorted to pulling main plug from back of dashboard / speedo, count to 30 and reconnect - supposedly removed static build up.

What year is it.

As Jev88 says

Up to 2006 they had a small problem with the dash connection.

Remove a couple of screws for the dash, seem to remember them being torx.
Pull the dash forward enough to get your hand behind. If you have big hands you’ll probably need to remove the Speedo cable.

Unplug the little voltage stabiliser and leave for a few minutes then replace. Try ignition before refitting the dash.
