Hi all :) I have noticed behind our new MHs fridge vents is the fridge electricals (obviously) but also the rear of the wooden panelling that makes up the units.

How does one protect the inside of this 'vent tube?' from water? I'm thinking sideways rain both when camping and in storage but also from the jetwash. I can't imagine water touching inside here is a good thing.

I've heard about vent covers but surely if the fridge is on these can't be used.

I also didn't have issues with water getting in, not from the side rain nor from the auto car wash. When manually washing, I just avoid the vents, or try to aim at them from above.

In my Burstner manual it suggests you fit the fridge vents when the temperature drops to below a certain temperature but also if being stored over winter. Our MH came with just the one vent for our tall (142lt I think) Thetford fridge. Our local caravan shop wanted over £25 for what is a sheet of plastic about 3mm thick (probably costs significantly less than a pound to make in China). Instead I ordered a sheet of 3mm A4 foamboard off Fleabay, laid my existing cover on top, penciled around the shape and then cut it out. Fits and works perfectly.

As well as cold weather you are supposed to fit the vent covers when washing the van.
You should never use a pressure washer on a Motorhome.

Thanks all - lots to think about then. Looking at the vent angles it does seem difficult for rain to get in I suppose.

As a side note why is everyone so opposed to jetwashing their MH’s? Genuine question - I’d have thought you’d have for sure atleast had to do the arches and stubborn dirty areas..

Depends on the strength of the pressure washer.

High power could push through the window seals.

I use a pressure washer and when near windows and vents, set it to low which is no more than our normal water pressure and always aim away from the vents and at the centre of the windows spraying outward.
