I'm a slightly less experienced newbie and still learning
Hi

Collected the new MH 7 days ago, during handover was advised to travel with fridge vent covers on especially when raining as spray etc can get into fridge area through them, even when the fridge was running!

Have never done this before throughout 30+ years of caravanning (I know were talking MH's here) and as far as I'm aware never experienced any problems.

What are other Funsters thoughts?

Never ever used them when travelling in 10 years of motor homing!

Always use them when washing the van but never when traveling, a sure way of loosing them. Held on with pathetic turn buttons.

If they are like my Autosleeper vent covers they would probably fall off when you hit a bump!

Never used for traveling but Thetford advise using if temps below 8 degrees c to provide more efficient cooling.

I don't get that.
More efficient cooling in cooler temperatures?
I've never understood why I would ever need some

The Motorhome fridge will be spec’d to keep things cold with ambient temperatures above 8degC (that temperature based on when my Dometic manual says fit lower cover).

The Internet said:
At temps lower than that 8degC, the fitted cooling components won’t have to work so hard and the coolant pressure drops.
Lowering the efficiency.
That quote is a summary of what I gleaned from the internet 🤪
But I have learned real life supporting experience of our Dometic not working well in during our 1st winter trip - until I fitted the lower cover. (y)

I think in simple terms ,the gas burner heats up the evaporator at the bottom vent, if too much cold air is being drawn in you have to burn more gas to heat the evaporator up. The vent covers do not completely cover the vent, there is still space for air to get in. You can see the spaces in the cover in this video.
