Morning all

My Daughter is currently using a small SWB Caddy for sleeping in on weekends when she goes cycling.

She has a 100w solar panel.

No gas as she will be getting a bigger van a T4 SWB or similar.

She’s asked me what type of fridge or cool box to use until the bigger van is bought and I’ll convert that.

Collective thoughts wether to get a full on fridge, a cool box on 12v (can be expensive) or just a couple of cheap cool boxes.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you/she is going to a T6type van they usually stick 50 ltr Whaco compressor fridges in or Vertigo other makes are available. I don’t know how the Caddy is kitted out but I converted a caddy with normal T5 layout which you see every where. Great conversion for young bendy folks

Just bear in mind that a lot of cheap 12v cool boxes are not thermostatically controlled so they can use quite a lot of power.
The 24 litre one I have draws 4 amps continuously all the time it's on so in 24 hours will use 96 AH.
If its only for a couple of nights I'd get a reasonable quality non electric cool box.

The Caddy is temporary until the bigger van is bought and sorted.

It’s only got a basic fixed bed down one side.

Waco or Engle fridges are both great and hold their value.

I'd buy something to fit the T4 (Compressor) and shoehorn it into the Caddy build making sure you can easily convert the space into a cupboard.

Cheers

The Caddy won’t have more done to it now.

She’ll just use as is now and buy things to do the T* what ever she buys 😊

There’s not much room in the caddy when the bike is in there 😊

I would go for a compressor cool box the cheap non compressor ones use too much power.
I think suavecarve got a cheap compressor one for not much over a hundred quid and it was OK.

Mine was reallocated from the FiL but fairly sure I found one at that price though not required.

Would it be better to buy a small fridge that would fit into the next vehicle that "does a job" in the caddy ?

A compressor based Waco or Engel. There are cheaper but we’ve Engels in very rugged conditions.
Having said that they are a bit bulky.….but make sure you go compressor
