Had a few packs of ice cubes in the freezer compartment. At some stage the power was disconnected and the cubes melted. Discovered this as noticed water running across the floor and into the floor hatch. It appears that the hatch has expanded with the moisture and can no longer be opened. Any hints on what to do appreciated.

How on earth can they build a floor in a kitchen area that isn't waterproof ?

Dehumidifier, electric or powder may also help. Heat can make the wood expand. So I'd let it dry as naturally as possible.

Why didn't they match the pattern? My OCD would be on overload with that mis-match!!
Have a look at the pattern. When they eventually get it out and rotate it by 180 x degrees, it'll match. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Fwiw jock I think the lid is 180 deg out also, regardless of wood match, the handle should be nearest the doorđź‘Ť

Is there another floor hatch nearby that you can remove and reach under to push the lid up, also the patern should match, I can see that if you turn it round it still wont match which makes me think that has it been swopped with another one the same size.

Just kidding. It will shrink when it dries as anyone who has owned a wooden boat will tell you

Tony

Of course it will shrink ..... The Ark was originally designed to allow for FOUR of each animal to allow for spares ...... But they discovered a design flaw when it started raining and then had to limit it to just TWO of each. ..... And they still didn't have enough room for the Unicorns.

If it doesn't free up when it dries, can you access from an external locker to put some pressure on from below?

Many thanks for the advice. I may have been misled by the water on the floor. I managed to remove the hatch by firstly removing the little pop up lever and then knocking out the cover underneath. Inserted a L shaped steel bar and gave it a couple of sharp upward knocks. There was some strange looking guck that we believe is solidified bbq sauce. I do vaguely recall spilling some . Scraped it off and all is well. I regret, for those who care about such things, that the floor pattern does not align. Happily the wine store is now accessible and my evening is saved.

:giggle:

Thought it seemed strange, glad you got it sorted, the mismatched flooring must be a hymer?
