Our fridge/freezer has started to make a loud ticking noise, when we are slowing down and/or stopping temporarily, say at traffic lights etc. it’s sounds like a ticking time bomb! Any ideas please, what this is? And how to stop it.

Perhaps the alternator is not providing adequate power or the connection is poor, so it automatically switches to gas.

It shouldn't do this over a time frame of a few seconds. There should be a safety timer, giving a time delay of about 15 minutes minimum. This is to avoid the scenario of stopping at a fuel station, and the gas firing up with a naked flame just as you start filling with fuel.

Could it be the relay clicking? If the D+ signal triggering the relay is a bit weak, it might not be able to hold the relay closed. So it clicks off. That relieves the load, the signal goes stronger, and the relay clicks on again. That weakens the D+ signal, so it clicks off again, and so on. So can you tell if it's a relay, or the gas igniter, that's clicking?
