I have a fridge that one caravan shop tells me I cannot get a vent cover for. Cold air comes in just above the bed in my van. Is there any solution for these apparently older vans? It is a Leisuredrive conversion .

You need to seal round the fridge better, or wherever it's coming into the van

Welcome.

Leisuredrive Vivante here.

Firstly, you can get vents. They take a bit of putting on (you will need to bang the corners!) and there is an art to taking them off. But absolutely essential in this weather. I'll dig out the details later.

Secondly, yes, I put foam strip above and below the fridge.

Above was tricky because I have the drawer above, but some on the fridge and some on the drawer makes a decent difference to the wind blowing through.

I'll dig some pictures out later.

The fridge vents are "MPK 5039 FRIDGE VENT COVER - BLACK"

Assuming your vents are as per mine:

First example, not necessarily the best price:

DRAUGHTS

I used some 3mm adhesive closed cell foam / neoprene.

This was between the fridge base and the lower cupboard; I used 3 strips stuck together and just wedged it in:

Above the fridge was a bit trickier, because the drawer is directly above.

So, I removed the drawer (not so easy!!!), and placed some of the 3mm on the BACK of top of the frame of the fridge, but not all the way across, essentially avoiding the drawer sides, as below:

Then, (not got a picture of this), I put shorter bits and placed them on the bottom of the drawer towards the FRONT, so that it overlaps, and blocks the gaps. So, essentially covering these gaps:

Hopefully that is all clear, let me know if not.

The fridge vents make a big difference in the winter, and this foam does essentially the same the rest of the year. There is now (almost) no draught even in very strong wind; the only place we still get a draught in storm / gale force winds is through the seat belt gap above the fridge, if it is really bad I stuff a tea-towel or bar-towel in there!

All very comprehensive; bravo!

Not really on topic but arrived in Valladolid lunchtime after a journey with strong winds only to find the top vent missing. Watch out it’s dangerous out there!!

The vent covers that go on our vans would need a hurricane to remove
