I have a 2003 Fiat Ducato, Autotrail Cheyenne 696 and the old pipe from the water tank to the run off tap developed a leak and also the tap was getting so still I could not turn it. So I went along to Burtree caravans and asked the nice man there who sold me a fresh water tap and a meter of pipe. I wondered about the pipe because it seemed a bit hard and I didn't think a jubilee clip would be suitable for it. He said it would and that the pipe coming from the tank was ribbed so you could just push it on and that would be ok. So this afternoon my neighbour and I took the old pipe off with great difficulty because it was very old and the clips were rusted away. when we tried to fit the new tap on the new pipe no matter what we tried, it leaked and we tried just about everything possible, we also discovered that the pipe from the tank was smooth and not ribbed. We decided that the only way round it was to find a 1 inch diameter smooth pipe. I am sure that quite a few of you will have had the same or similar problem so please can you enlighten me and tell me what to do ? I think I will take the useless pipe and tap back and demand my money back but of course that wont solve my problem.

Did you try warming the pipe first, either with a hot air gun or by dunking the end in a jug of boiling water? I realise it is less effective on ribbed pipe than for smooth pipe but I've found that it does help.

Yes, I tried that today and it did work a bit, I managed to get it past two of the ribs after soaking the end in almost boiling water and as far as I can see it is not leaking but I will always be worried about it and the other problem is that the pipe swivels round when I turn the tap so I may ask my younger, stronger neighbour to have a go.

I should add that we tried it with a different pipi, a clear , smooth plastic one.
