French Pet Passport

Lucrative ? Given the charge I think not ! With a friends who has a cat rescue here a few Brit pet passports doesn’t add that much to the coffers and bit like the myth that Brit motorhomes not visiting would bankrupt Europe lol
So you think French vets would not be happy to be paid maybe four times the rate they normally charge to issue a pet passport?

2years ago we paid 90 euros for a French Passport, Casper had to have a blood test first We have used the same vet for 20 years. She filled it in with an incorrect date and we were refused boarding at Eurotunnel. Luckily we had his UK passport with us. Next trip and she issued another one.

Sorry losing your point . You think they should be robbers like the U.K. . Systems here are different like specialists in healthcare etc . They can charge as they wish and you pay for your insurance accordingly . My insurance covers 300% of what is recommended by the state so I can choose which specialist to see within that price range . Vets make the most of their money for treatment and operations .

My point is that I believe a lot of Brits would be willing to pay considerably more than the going rate for the convenience of having a French pet passport. The vets could charge a ‘local’ rate for French residents and a ‘non-local’ rate for others. That doesn’t make them ‘robbers’.

However, by issuing directives to vets that they can no longer provide pet passports unless the owners meet certain criteria, the French government is depriving their own vets of useful additional income. There is no EU-wide law that prohibits the issuing of pet passports to non-residents. Individual countries can introduce their own particular requirements (as France seems to be doing at the moment) - but to what useful purpose?

As the easiest country to access from the UK, France is in the ideal position to benefit from the pet travel chaos caused by Brexit, but they don’t seem to realise that. If France makes it difficult to obtain pet passports, Brits can just go to another EU country to get one. France’s loss.

As I said not really a big loss in the scheme of their work .

The one obstacle I can see is at the border . Oh your dog is french registered . May I have your Carte de Sejour because they will assume you live here and why have you not shown your Carte de Sejour with your passport . More now since the word which can’t be mentioned as checking who is resident or not more . Never needed to show your residence card before that word lol
You 'd have to be really unlucky to get stopped like that.
The pet passport and the humans passports are not show in the same place, they are completely separate check-in so why would they be bothered.
Maybe at eurotunnel but in the real world of ferries all are shown to the person when you check in the vehicle including you doing the microchip check:giggle:. On many occasions I have never got out of the vehicle & no one has ever seen the dog.
but if postings on this site are anything to go by it seems that no one wants to pay for anything !
If you saw the prices of everything BEFore covid in the UK it would have made your eyes water.

Actually I suspect that a lot of Brits would happily pay over the odds for the convenience of a French pet passport. Say two, three or even four times the going rate. The French vets could be onto a very nice little earner indeed - but it seems they will probably be denied that by their own government. Ironic, huh?
No one would turn down supplying one here.
A big con as U.K. infection rates are twice those of France .
& 7 times spanish rates!!

Actually 3 times The French today :-(

Checked mine and it's all hand written, no stamps at all. French issued.

We got 2 French pet passports from the vet in Mailleraye sur Seine, unlike the UK passports on page 7 where the uk vet stamps it in red an signs it they have done it with an address stamp and signed and hand written the vets av number.
I queried this with them and they said that is how they have always done them. Can anyone with a french, Spanish or German pet passport post a picture of their page 7 so I can check it?

The only “ missing “ part I can see is they have not filled in an email address. May be worth checking in with them again when you are on your way home.I have used the vets in Mailleraye for many years but had a problem in September 2019 when they gave Daisy a one year rabies booster.I had requested the annual boosters when she had her return to uk worming treatment but they gave a rabies as well.OK it was due 3 months later but it was not stamped correctly, not signed within the box,and not laminated with the required sticker. I went back the next morning and Valerie was very apologetic and between us we were able to amend the missing details.

Does the pet need a passport photo?

We obtained a additional PP for our dog whilst in Spain in May this year and we do not have a Spanish address.
The Vets details are on page 9, so the passports may have changed again with the Vets details hand written (in blue) NO vets registration number only the rubber stamp of the clinic. Page 7 of our dogs UK issued PP is hand written (in blue) with the official stamp and the vets registration. We have used the NEW PP twice in and out without any problems, so I think you are worrying about nothing.
