French motorways

Pay cash! at each booth stop remove seat belt, find money, go long way round kicking tyres as you go, have discussion with wife as to the cost, wait for the wrong rate to appear and shout Campingcar into the mike, find new cost and fiddle in purse for money, insert cash, and demand receipt, walk back to drivers side kicking tyres again, get in put on seat belt, adjust belt and settle in, replace money in safe then move off taking all necessary precautions.
During this time you will be regaled by happy French drivers who will deeply appreciate the care you are taking and they will serenade you with their wonderful singing voices and car horns(y)
No problem, I just use the 30kph lane. No stopping.:dance2:

How can we find out which are free before leaving home?
Go to google maps
Choose the place you are heading to
You then have an option of choosing "Directions"
Choose from either calais or your home (Or Dieppe etc)
Make sure the vehicle is chosen and not a pushbike (up the top somewhere
You then get your map and time it will take with 3 choices (one of which is in blue as fastest)

Then you will see options. click it and you can avoid tolls and if you so wish change it kms or miles.

changing the options allows you to see how much time will be saved by using tolls.

If Spriddler s link doesnt give you the quick comparison. (I wouldnt know as i hardly ever use tolls for purely financial reasons)

Thanks for that. I use Google Maps all the time, but I'd forgotten about the option to avoid tolls.
