Hi
I am planning on travelling through France in February and recently recieved my Crit air 4 vignette for my euro 3 motorhome .
I am planning on travelling to Spain and I am unsure of how to make myself aware of the Crit air restrictions surrounding some of these towns and cities enroute . Are there road signs showing which category can enter and at what time ?
I have bought a Garmin Campervan 795 MT-D sat nav . I entered my vehicle profile which included Crit air category 4 but the route from Calais shows it going through the middle of Rouen across the bridge which I believe is restricted to Crit 4 category
Thanks for any advice

I think this has been answered several times already. As long as you don't deviate from the main through route you are outside the zone. If you zoom in on the map you can see it.

Thanks for the information . So I can trust my Garmin campervan satnav with Crit air 4 setup in the vans profile 👍

When we drove past Toulouse earlier this year there were signs on the motorway which were saying classes 4 & 5 were banned in the city centre on that day. When we drove back on another day there were no restrictions showing. All depends on weather and pollution levels on any one day.

The badges are not monitored electronically it requires an official (police or parking warden etc) to spot it, hence the position in the bottom of the windscreen nearest the pavement.

I believe a small number of cities have permanent restrictions (Rouen?)

Thanks that is very helpful . I also think I’ve read in the new year Rouen is permanent ban . Does anyone else have any news on that .
It might be why my Garmin is also still showing a route through at the moment .

So what notifications are there if one approaches a banned area on a banned day on another road?

Is a defence to say that 'I did not pass any notifications?

Good question . Maybe there is a reliable app out there

Green-Zones app shows all the areas and has maps etc

Many thanks for that app . I downloaded it and subscribed to the live data for £12:99 for 3 months ( auto renewal so remember to cancel when finished with it ) I then entered my motorhome Crit air details and went to the map and found Rouen . For me it’s a no go ! So May have just saved an expensive fine if I had followed my new Garmin motorhome sat nav blindly. What I can’t understand is in the Garmin vehicle profile it gives option to enter Crit air vignette category 4 and it still routes me through Rouen .

Unless it's changed very recently I thought you could still transit through Rouen but only along the corridor marked N28 D18Eon my map below.

Ah that is interesting . Now if I zoom all the way in on the app map for Rouen I can see the route is not shaded in red . It is a clear way through as you said and my Garmin also directs me this way . Where I was confused is zooming out it’s all a red blob and if I click on it I’m told I’m not allowed to enter . So secret is to enlarge the map to see the route corridor . Thanks for help and a Happy new year to everyone 🍷🍾

Well I’ve just travelled through Rouen on the N28/D18E yesterday without any crit air sticker so I’ll let you know if/when I get a fine 😂🤣

Yes, always worth zooming right in as lots of places have through routes that are not obvious at first glance

Thanks , I suppose the subscription hopefully gives you live updates but then again there should be road signage doing that . Also as previously mention what happens if you enter via a minor road where no signs .. can you plead ignorance

Good luck 🤞. You can tell I’m new to this

I was fearing it to be something like the London ulez where numberplate recognition can deliver a fine on returning home . Now I know it’s not as advanced as that I will relax but good to know how it all works and stay on the right side 👍

I travelled through Rouen on Tuesday morning. The route through the tunnel is saying anything over 3.5T needs to follow the diversion and it tries to take you off for at least 30km. I held my nerve and toughed it out (thanks for the tip Dave Ditcha) and the tunnel is fine, still 4m height and a single ‘wide enough’ lane.

Six or seven kilometres later over the river bridge you branch off and loop under the bridge but because I’d driven it so many times I wasn’t even looking at the satnav. Anyway, my Garmin went crazy saying I was in a clean air zone ya de ya de da… I’m sure it will be fine. I don’t have a crit air sticker! Drove through the center of Lyon in April and that was fine..

I too ignored the 3.5t diversion (I’m 7.5t) as the matrix signs said HGV MUST divert but as I’m a motorhome I just ignored it 😂🤣

I am 7.3T too… every junction there were a lot of signs ‘encouraging’ you to leave the Autoroute, est obligatory… 🤪

I used Greenzones which is good, but doesn't integrate with the sat nav (TomTom in my case). I'd heard Garmin had done it which is good. TomTom are dragging their feet. I would have thought it an essential feature if you advertise as having Live Traffic. Hopefully it works for zones that vary with weather. I think it will still be handy to check with Greenzones until you know the Garmin is keeping up to date.

Thanks for info . Yes I am now using Green-Zones and have set up my motorhomes Crit air profile in it . I also have the Garmin Camper 795 MT-D sat nav so will ask the question to Garmin and see if thier live traffic takes info from Green zones . You would hope thier tech/ development department would be interested in getting on top of it . It’s not going to get any easier and has to be the way foreward
