I have a quick question about shopping for camping furniture, specifically tables and chairs, in France and perhaps Belgium. We leave this Friday and have some basic gear already but I'd like to upgrade it before we go. My Wife thinks it makes more sense to wait until we're in France and head to a Decathlon or equivalent over there. Any thoughts on this? Is it likely to be any cheaper and will we have as much choice as we have here online etc?

Shopping in Decathlon last year I thought the prices were slightly lower but a lot can change in a year. Good luck and happy travels.

With camping chairs it is always best to try them out to see how comfy they are. If you do look in France or Belgium then definitely somewhere that is a chain (like Decathlon) in case a return is required.

I know it’s not France or Belgium but we just went to the camping shop in polch near the n&b factory in Germany. It’s a fantastic shop Better than any I have seen for camping accessories

We had a distress purchase (OK, I broke the old Lafuma!) of a chair the other day. Very little choice in Decathlon, but the Quechua chair I got is fine and cheaper at €47.99 than it would have been in Decathlon Uk (£49.99.)

We've bought camping chairs, microfibre towels, and some clothing in Decathlon stores in France over the last couple of years. Choice is better, and prices slightly cheaper than the UK.

Out of town Decathlons in France invariably have huge motorhome friendly car parks.

We'll be in Northern Luxembourg too so Polch is a mere 143km away. Not sure it warrants a 2 hour journey for camping chairs to be honest but we have no set plan for our trip barring Ypres and Ghent and a nice looking campsite in Luxembourg so who knows. What's the N&B factory please?

We always seek out one of the big Decathlons to go and have a rummage in, they have such a big choice of everything, altho we don’t tend to bother with the smaller ones.

Also worth checking the supermarkets. We bought two absolutely excellent and extremely lightweight folding chairs from SuperU in August. Brilliant quality, really comfortable and about 40€ each.

Decathlon was more expensive in France than the UK this summer for several items we were looking for.

Of course, the ones with the heavier square tubing.

All you can do is tell people about them, but they will still go on to buy a couple Issabella and a further couple of Lafumas or maybe half a dozen no-name chairs. All while our Dukdalfs are good as new.

They certainly are the best and no dearer than other brands.

Will places like Decathlon sell these Jim or are they just available online? I do like the idea of trying a chair out before buying it.

I'm not sure, but I doubt it. They are quite expensive, I've only seen them online and in German camping shops. Our 20 year old set is enjoying a second life in our sons camper. We use the Dynamic and its a superb chair. Really solid, (I'm 18st)
Really light. And so comfortable. They are a perfect upright dinner chair, but they also recline at loads of angles untill horizontal, then if you have the leg extension its a full recliner. They really are the best chairs we've owned.

Somewhat confusingly its called Niesmann Caravaning

although nothing to do with Niesmann + bischoff these days. Excellent shop but pricey. Another option in France is Narbonne Accessoire who have shops all over.

Dukdalf are Dutch so more prevalent in Holland, Germany & Belgium, the ones with square tube frame will last for ever but if want to save weight the tubelar frame ones are much lighter but just as comfortable.

Unlike you lot who seem to be loaded (financially) I bought nearly all our camping chairs and tables in 2007 when they were on special offer in ASDA, and dirt cheap, not more than a fiver each. They are still going strong and don't need replacing.

A newer version of our Ozark Trail chairs is available online for £14.

If you are in France there are Narbonne Accessoires shops. Narbonne is my nearest but they have others. But I also vote for Decathlon, they are everywhere.

Carole just said shes fed up with our cheap ones that fold away so small and light, with canvas arms
I have just looked at AZtec site and theres a lightwieight blue chair with padded back reduced from £210 to £109 and a pair for £209 . Have you seen the ones with the padded back and would you say they are better than the non padded
