Hi ,
We are in Salamanca and having tripped up and after a visit to hospital, I have a fractured pelvis and cannot weight bear for 4 weeks. We would like to find a campsite or Aire that has tarmac roads ideally near a town with sea promenade and some restaurants.
Hiring a buggy for a month seems like a good idea as at least we won’t be confined to our PVC while the first part of the healing process takes place. I have a Spanish hospital letter so hiring shouldn’t be a problem .
Having , visited Benidorm years ago , that could be one option but would be very grateful if anyone could recommend other sites. Having just got off the boat we have 90 days so no problem to travel to any site in Spain or Portugal.

Many thanks

Pam

I cannot help with a campsite but sending you hugs, so sorry this has happened while you are away. I feel your pain, currently holed up a bit with a fracture in lumber spine after a trip. If you find the PVC a little tricky, maybe get an AirBnB apartment for a couple of weeks. We had a lovely one in La Manga with lift to all floors and a huge outside terrace, not too expensive.

Thank you. Riverbankanni, hope you heal quickly and feel better soon.

Cap Blanch at the edge of Altea bordering L'Abir right by the beach nice flat prom to both towns. Loads of good restaurants close by. There is a cycle hire shop in L'Abri that hires mobility scooters.

Can recommend Bonterra resort at Benicàssim, we stayed there for 4 weeks while John recuperated from radiotherapy.
Good disabled toilets level entrance to the site restaurant and pool, not right on the beach but has a lovely promenade. Mercadona supermarket right outside, Lidyl just up the road. Plenty of restaurants and cafes and a market each week. Friendly helpful staff too.
Do hope you have good analgesia, and that your are on the mend.

I can’t help with sites but I am sorry to hear about your injury.

I also came on to say how good mhfun is for posts like this, people immediately want to help or advise (y)

2nd vote for Bonterra.
Ticks every box.

I'm not a fan of sites but stayed there last year for a few days not only I could get the Paddleboard out but more importantly loads of restaurants.

The thing to consider is it’s going to get warm soon and being in a wheelchair or scooter is no fun when it’s hot, a site with a pool or easy access to the sea will be a good decision, a site with good disabled toilets/shower is a must.

There will be many sites that fit this description so it will be a personal choice of where you want to be…
I can’t recommend any but the best disabled toilets/showers that I’ve used on a site is at camping Jávea and they have a nice pool…😎

I’m sorry this has happened to you and wish you well. Some great suggestions so far. We are at Mar Menor Camping and it would suit your requirements but I’m not sure where you can hire a mobility scooter.

We are currently at Camping Playa Poniente on the prom at Motril. It ticks all you ask for. Beautiful prom with toilets and disabled access via boardwalks and room on the site for new arrivals

It's all Salamanca's fault, it is jinxed. That was where my wife fell off her bike and broke her arm. Didn't realise for a week it was that bad until I dragged her into the cottage hospital at Lagos in Portugal. They took an XRay and told her it was broken, and sent us back to Portimao to get it fixed. The result was the arm in plaster and a sling for the rest of the holiday. Mind you she seemed to be very happy to deal with the two young good looking Portuguese Doctors who sorted it out. Amazed how quickly and efficiently it was dealt with when compared with the NHS. And all it cost was €19.

I am glad she is OK. We went to the big Government hospital in Salamanca and they were excellent. Went in , registered, triage then saw general consultant , xray ,saw an orthopaedic consultant who was amazing.
Showed me the fracture and took blood to make sure I wasn't anaemic. One hour later saw the orthopaedic consultant again, blood results all good.Pain killers prescribed and told no weight bearing for 3 to 4 weeks and exact instructions as to what to do afterward. Couldn't fault anything. No charge.Whole process 4 and a half hours.
