I can thoroughly recommend The Robert Hoon Thrillers, by JD Kirk. There are five of them.
They are definitely thrilling, they're funny, sad and stupid; sometimes all at the same time. As an Englishman, I found them superb, if you're Scottish you'll probably like Hoon even more

All on my kindle but I listened to a couple of the books on Audible while out with my dog, the narrator is Scottish too, and far too often my dog would look at me sideways as I stopped and giggled out loud.

Want some holiday reading and don't blush too easily? Settle down with Bob Hoon, you'll love it. Well I did.

You probably just need to get out a bit more ,sad english ,ex forces, ?

My lad has been offered a post in Edinburgh. I told him to watch Rab C Nesbit to get some idea of the accent.
If you can understand a strong Glaswegian accent you can understand anything
