Food to France

That gets trotted out ad nauseam but doesn’t actually address the issue. Are you really saying that it is OK to ignore / modify any laws you don’t like?

how about child abuse - got a level that’s OK?

They're hardly going to call the police if they find a pack of bacon in your fridge are they 🙄🤣

Assume that you park your car on a street facing the right direction with a parking light on !!!!!!!
Lights are not required if more than 10m from a junction in a 30 mph zone and you are facing the correct way.

Some folk HAVE been stop checked. If you are, you run the risk of a fine as well as confiscation of the items. On a fairly recent TV programme a couple who tried to bring food into the EU were fined heavily - although they did lie through their teeth when questioned.

I don't think anyone should be deprived of taking the moral high ground when they choose to condemn the blatant disregard for the law displayed by those yahoo's who decide to start smuggling contraband like sausages, bacon , butter and dare I say it, dog food.

In actual fact, I'm beginning to question my association with a forum that houses such people with these criminal tendencies...its shocking  :giggler::reel:

Some dog food is made in the EU, imported to GB then does it become illegal when it goes back to EU in our van?
His biscuits are made in West Yorkshire however, but I normally hide the pistol in the middle of a big bag, so that was always dodgy.

Dry complete and canned dog food same as in U.K. is widely available, I would stop at a hypermarket near your arrival point and stock up. Dog mixer meal is a different matter, couldn't find it at all when stranded there for 3 weeks and had to resort to pasta instead.
I wouldn't smuggle it, rules is rules and I have no sympathy with those who break them and get caught. You could ask your vet to supply a letter? But really no point in asking members of this Forum to exonerate you.

I've just heard off a reliable source (fella down the road called Barry) that yes you can take tins of dog food as long as they are not for resale..

Feel Better now? 😉
Tosh. It's illegal to take meat or dairy products, no matter how packed or who it is intended for. End of.

Off to France via tunnel next week and still trying to get ones head around potential 'contraband' ie food.
I understand that one cannot take dairy produce, meat etc . But our dogs diet means she has a preference for a particular Tin of dog meat. Would it be wrong to smuggle a dozen tins with us and then wait to see if the French customs carry out a full shakedown on our van, in fact have any funsters been stopped and searched recently?
We came through French customs today - no mention of food stuff at all. We have the usual fridge full of food - almost exactly what we brought last year. This year because of some bungerling Brussels beurocratic bullshit we are smugglers. Ridiculous. :Eeek:

I know, what about those 5 guys arrested for bringing in £160m of cocaine and because some bungling bureaucratic bullshit they are smugglers. Where will it end!

Asking on here just leaves yourself open to judgement.

Items for personal use that were previously allowed before this ridiculous shambles we are now in due to stupidity.

Personally im carrying on as normal

I would not smuggle drugs or guns, but do feel that a bit of meat or dairy produce, for my own consumption,
is in a different league
Not at all. Guns, drugs, dairy products are all prohibited. The action taken if any were discovered might vary, but the illegal league is a common home.

So is chocolate. Try telling my dog it is after he has just cleared all the gold coins off the Christmas tree. Glitter piles on the lawn for the next couple of days😂
My last gsd once ate a pie, complete with foil tray  His poo was like tinsel for a day or so too!

Apparently you can take some fish based dog food to the EU so long as it hasn’t got any meat/meat products in it.

Well we decided to be straight and put our fresh food etc in the fridge/freezer and dog meat in the usual cupboard - nothing hidden and if they ask or check on said provisions we'll throw ourselves onto the mercy of the French judicial system.
Good news - apart from asking about the gas nothing else checked apart from the usual paperwork - result !!!

You actually comparing smuggling £160 million with of cocaine to taking a few tins of dog food, bacon etc that would have been perfectly legal 12 months ago. I understand the need for these restrictions when and if the UK's food standards diverge from the EU but at the moment they have not.
Wonder what the penalty would have been for smuggling the half dozen tins of spam that I brought to France a month ago?
Spam is produced in Denmark!!!

Our dog only eats a particular food which is made in Germany - we have it delivered by ZooPlus. We took enough to last him for the duration of our 6 week stay.

I'm pretty law abiding generally but these rules are just ridiculous. I'm ignoring them.

By the way, I assume we're still talking of dog food not class A drugs !!

If you are carrying illegal guns and class A drugs in whatever country you reside you are doing something seriously illegal.

Drugs and guns kill. Dairy products and dog food don't

I honestly can't believe I'm reading a post where guns, drugs and dairy products are mentioned in the same sentence!!
