Hello, we are off on Eurotunnel again in a couple of weeks and have decided that we can no longer stomach staying at the Drum Inn. So we are thinking of the services at Folkestone Junction 11. Has anyone any experience of staying there. The motorhome parking seems to be in front of the service building behind the car park marked caravans. Thanks all

The parking for motorhomes can be very difficult there as the caravan and motorhome parking is small and generally full of vans. You could likely park up at Farthing Common, just up the hill from the Drum.

I’m booked into Drum in a couple of weeks for a night to make getting my AHC easier. What’s wrong with it?

Parking Prices

First 2 hours free for all vehicles, after which cars must pay £9, caravans and motorhomes must pay £20, and HGVs must pay £23 which includes a £5 food voucher.

Prices are paid using the self-service pay points located throughout the amenity building.

The fees are strictly enforced by Stop 24 and are monitored by ANPR cameras.

We have used it a few times in the past each time the price has increased. The location is great, only 5 minutes to the tunnel, but it is not the cost. I think the owners are relatively new (18 months) but they need to spend a bit of money on it. There is a small hardstanding area behind the pub and then a large grassy field. If they cut the grass that would be a good thing but if it is wet everyone is crammed into the hard standing bit, to be honest they take too many bookings. The toilets and one shower are very shabby, there is drinking water available, somewhere to empty the toilet but nowhere for the grey waste. Food is average. Great dog walk behind though, public footpath across the fields so something postive.

As Peter says, Canterbury Park and ride all the time!

Safe, secure, water fill up, black and grey disposal, easy journey to the tunnel. Have used it probably 10 times and pub at entrance is decent enough
Are there plenty of spaces available

If you are coming along the M20 and don't fancy going up Stone Street as far as Canterbury P&R, an option might be Stelling Minnis. The Rose and Crown used to have a campsite but it has closed. There is a new "rustic style" campsite opened in the village called Knowler Farm, it shows on Google maps. I haven't stayed there but have walked through several times when out rambling and it looks ok to me.

Thanks, had a look, we may have to leave the dog outside, not allowed in high season, but one to bear in mind for the future.

Sorry , others find it OK, you may think it is OK too. Just don't expect the Ritz!

Blackhorse Farm is very easy to the tunnel and you can stay in the late in/early out section if you want. Wouldn't normally go there, however, if you are going to spend £20 to stay at the services you may as well have something much better with a shop opposite and a pub 100yds away

Have used Canterbury every time we’ve gone across however this time we need to go into Folkestone to pick up an AHC. Drum at £25 + £99 for the AHC against £250 at home for the AHC plus £8 for Canterbury P&R plus additional mileage, easy decision.

Hope things work out for you OK. We have toyed with using the vets in Folkestone but again we are using our own vet. Price goes up every time, we had one in March that was £175, this time it is £215 plus we will probably get stung for a late charge as we are only giving 18 days notice rather than 21. Is it straight forward with the Folkestone one, our vet always provides a letter on headed paper that accompanies the AHC confirming the rabies jab, how do they do that? We were going to go to Ireland this year to see if a vet over there that we used when we lived there for a bit would give us a Passport but didn't get there. We may ask the vet we use in Ypres. Good luck

Abbey well vets very easy very professional and straightforward and very fast pick up
They take confirmation of rabies either from your papers ( we used the old pet passport) or direct from your vet via email

It's near where I live, £22 a night. Get a better view at Farthing Common for nothing. Walk the dogs for miles if you wish following the marked footpath behind the car park. I stay there often and it's only 5 miles from where I live! Handy if early start needed.

Is it straight forward
Very. Scanned and emailed certain pages from our EHC from earlier in the year and advised the date we wanted to pick it up. Got conf back about a week later and paid. We can go in in any time on our stated day and they just scan our dog and hand the paperwork over. Actually so much easier than our own vet. Did think about a pet passport but were told dog would need another rabies jab and blood test, as the old boy is now 15 and a half decided to just get AHC, it’ll be £69 next time.

copy this

the Jackdaw in Denton in between Folkestone and Dover , we rang before and booked a table , food was good ( limited veggie menu) the hosts were really helpful and welcoming . There is a place in the car park set aside which is quite level but no EHU or access to toilets after pub closes . Would recommend this pub stopover . The pub is 20 mins from Dover .

We always take late afternoon train and park up on an aire in France..so much easier and you don't have to be up early next morning.BUSBY.
