Anyone looking for a low profile Lifepo4, I received this today from Fogstar...

i just fitted one of their 280ah batteries, 190mm width so fitted on its side in seat base, tight fit but it worked by sliding through under the front bar. Getting the seat out was a whole world of pain though.

Snug fit that; well done on making it work.

Looking more for replacement of existing AGM under floor in a box with a max height space of 190mm, unfortunately the max width is 175mm so although you could put one on it's side for the height the width wouldn't fit in then!
Will see what they come out with.

The Fogstar products are keenly priced and well specified. However, what lets them down for me is that it appears the JBD BMS they have chosen for the Drift range utilises PASSIVE cell balancing rather than ACTIVE. Passive cell balancing is a simpler technology but creates unnecessary heat (which can be detrimental to cell life) and wastes energy.

Roamer, KS Energy and Ecotree are all using active cell balancing and it is stated in their specifications. Fogstar don't appear to mention either technology in their data!

I have contacted Fogstar to ask them to confirm.

I think Fogstar normally quote their battery height without terminals, normal leisure batteries are 190mm including terminals, are Fogstar aware of this?
I assume they are following the normal seat base design with the terminals mounted at a recessed level.

Are those grab handles on the side? If so, wonder how useful they are as once dropped into a seat base the sides will be too close to get your hand in the (non)gap.

I think most of the seat base type batteries have handles of some sort on the sides. I guess it just makes handling the unit easier until you finally drop or slide it into position. Normal batteries have the handles on top of course.
If you were lowering into a position, I would be tempted to place some nylon straps around it and leave them there.

To get my Fogstar 280ah under the front seat I had to turn it on its side and then slide through from the front. Fitted into the gap and have used ratchet strap round the battery and seat frame to provide additional security. Unfortunately I installed it with the terminals at the back, should have put them at the front for easier access. Pity I did’t work that out before I reinstalled the seat. Will fix that this week.

Just to close the loop on this. Here is the response from Fogstar:

"The current iteration of the Drift incorporates passive balancing. The Drift v.2 should feature active balancing, but this is still in the planning stages."
