Hymer B564
Thought this might interest some of you Hymer owners this is my Hymer B564 being lifted onto an island in the Orkneys the island is North Ronaldsay and it doesn’t have a roll off landing so all vehicles have to be lifted on and off, as do all the supplies to the isle.
The process involves cargo nets and a lifting frame.
My kind wife signed me up to do a voluntary rebuild of a dry stone wall that runs Around the island and keeps the special breed off sheep off the grass areas as it’s toxic to them.
it was definitely a heart in the mouth moment watching my three and a half ton van fly on and off the island.

Regards The Ice Man.

Sounds like Fun, hope the weather was kind to you up there, looks like it could be very desolate in the winter.
Found a google maps link, one photo showing car being lifted off the ferry, plus another of a Stone Dyke wall.(y)
Tell us more.

Unfortunately I think the OP is going to have to subscribe as a member before we get to see the images.
I was thinking about you when I saw this thread, I know you did enjoy a bit of Island Hoping up there, maybe one to put on your wish list one day?

I only did the "mainland". Still have nightmares of a month old new van being fully chocked on the ferry from Scrabster, waking up at the Point of Ness campsite after a night of extreme buffeting to realise I couldn't see out of windows for all the encrusted salt, and finally crossing the Churchill Barrier Causeways in a gale at high tide with salt water waves washing over the top of the van. The outer islands would be a swim too far.

Yes mate, I remember your posts at the time, especially you going over the Causeway, bit blustery or what?
I might have been thinking of Otter Spotter, yes in fact I was, he has done some of the smaller islands off Shetland, think he was considering locating to one recently...big decision to be made.
Keep well.

Is he talking about North Ronaldsay? That’s a step too far for me 🥴 I believe the wall is designed to keep the sheep on the sea shore and off the land. The sheep eat the sea weed !

That should keep you busy then, only 13 miles long 😃
