I cannot find any mention of driving via France other than a small reference saying basically not needed as you are entering via an EU country ( and I cannot find it again ! )

Are you talking about entrance to Spain, via road from France ? If so, this document is not required as stated in the app. (Now deleted on my phone) It should be in thee Spain travel advice which I cant be bothered to look at again.
