We drained our water system last 0ctober before winter arrived. Didn't use the van again until last week. Put water in the fresh tank, closed the boiler dump lever, closed the taps and turned the pump on. Heard water running out where it shouldn't and was horrified to find water escaping into our underseat locker from the white domed piece next to the water pump. The top part shows a crack where it appears to have been a push fit or plastic seal. Is this part designed to fail if there is a blockage somewhere else? Does this mean we need the whole pump replacing, or just the white unit to the right? The van is a Swift 560L five years old and we have drained it down with no problems each winter before this one. Only thing that's different this winter is we took it to ALDE in Northants and paid to have the Alde fluid changed and a heating service in December. I didn't think they would have touched the other water system, but maybe thought they might have put water in the system to test the boiler hot water , then forgotten to drain the whole system down properly afterwards and not told me they had put water into the pipes system. Is this a possibility. if so I could understand a problem with the freezing weather we had a few weeks ago. I have somebody coming to look at it this Saturday, but wanted some advice as to what is needed. Fortunately the water seems to have exited very quickly from the locker via some purpose built holes, so I hope we will not have a damp problem. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Thank you for this reply.

Easy diy fix,
highlights the importance of fully pressuring the system to get all water out.

I thought we had done that. that's why I'm suspicious that the Alde people didn't drain the van down properly after the December service they carried out.

It is to be expected that Alde would have tested out the heating and hot water systems after servicing.
Whilst maybe not their remit to drain it all down for you again, they should have at least advised that the system was still charged.

Just get yourself a replacement accumulator, and fit, then recharge and check for further leaks. Easy peasy. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Thanks everybody for your advice.
