I was considering buying a flexi-hose to replace the utterly useless lay flat hose that I currently use.

My main frustration with the lay flat - apart from its propensity for splitting - is the difficulty in getting all the water out before rolling it away.

Does anyone use the flexi and if so do you experience the same difficulty or is draining not a problem? Also, what are flow rates like? The Hozelock one I'm looking at is 12mm int. dia.

My current hose

Live is a carrier bag, gets run through then used and stuck back in the bag when dry

As above. It's always more than long enough because we can always park next to the tap. It takes up very little room and sits in my small washing up bowl

I bought one to have on my sailing cruiser but only used it twice and gave it away for the same reason. Plus, it was a bind having to unroll the whole bloomin' thing even if only a few yards from a tap.
I've used ordinary garden hose for the past ten or so years and so far haven't been poisoned by the toxins leeching from the plastic as is often mentioned on here when hose threads appear.

I've got the flat hose provided with the Bailey and stand and roll it round its body connection while it lays on the ground, I find it drains as I roll it up. Does that make sense? :giggle:

A lot of connectors these days have a 'shut-off' valve when they disconnect so, if you are using a Heos Cap, when you uncouple the hose, it traps water in the hose.

I use a food standard, lay flat, Brunner Helix hose (slow filling?) connected to a short stiff ordinary piece of hose that I stuff into the filler cap WITHOUT the Heos cap.

When tank is full, leaving the stiff hose on, I put this at a lower, clean point and roll the hose back on it's reel. 95% of the water is exuded.
Then disconnect the stiff hose, wash it, shake it dry and store with hose.

I carried a 10m hose for years and didn't use it so it's gone. I now carry a rigid blue 4m hose and a 10ltr carrier.

X Hose, does the job, shrinks to a small bundle when not used and expands when in use. (y)

Never worried about my flat hose. If it's on a reel, then the water is squeezed out as you roll it up. No hosepipe can ever be dry inside after use. Just flush the hose first before each use, Most of any nasties will be swept away in the first pint.

I used the same stores in a small bag I make and takes very little room and weight not much.

A normal hose and some connectors is useful if on a rally. A few people join hoses and the vans can be filled up with out moving and gets you talking to your neighbors

flexi hose for me, i store it in a plastic container, it means that any water left in after use (and after draining the hose) doesnt get everywhere after its being used.

I got a slimline 5L watering can from Tesco, handy to have. Also bought a cheap flat hose from the Chinese shop at Benidorm.

Flexi hose for us, just gather it up and the most of the water runs out. We keep ours in a water proof bag along with various fittings and adaptors.
Been using two joined together for over five years and neither have ever split or leaked, we only bought the cheapest ones so if they do let us down we wont be bothered, just buy another two.

HACK. Get a tonic bottle, cut a hole in the side. Slip the unscrewed (Duh) end in to the filler and then you can pour one handed from a container into the motorhome.

We do exactly that with out lay flat hose.

We have used it for about 8 years and have had one split near the connector in all that time. I simply cut an inch off the hose and remade the connection.

“Rolling out the whole hose”, (as mentioned elsewhere on this thread), is just a matter of an underhand throw.

It certainly takes up less room than other types and, in our compact, that is appreciated.

Don't forget to finish the Gin first though:cheers:

I cant understand why folks need a super long /extending hose.
I always seem to be able to park my van next to any water tap - so I rarely have to un-roll even my wee short one :hi5:

Yep, we have a 3m one & a 7m, 90% of filling is with the 3m, & 7m if I need to get to the other side of the van, & can join them.
I do carry a 20m roll flat hose taken off the cassette to save space, only used 3 times in 14 years.

Another thumbs up for flexi hose.

I bought a cheap ebay special a few years ago and it's been fine. It is small and super light and contracts so much that there is no water left in it when disconencted - I'm able to keep it in a cloth bag with no leaks. Flow rate is fine - indistinguishable from a garden hose I would say.
