Flag associated with profile.

This has probably come up before, but I noticed last week when I was in Paris that when I used the forums on my laptop that the flag under my avatar and name changed from UK flag to French flag. This leads me to think that there may be some location tracking going on? Is this the case how do I turn it off? I can turn off the country flag in security settings, but I don't actually want to do that I'd just like to stop it tracking where I am.

Probably if you’re on iPhone then location services “safari “ although it will also remove location for any other web services that you may use in safari?

If you have another country sim in your phone or connected to WiFi in another country the flag will change. I think it just detects the DNS servers you are connecting via so its not tracking you.
You can turn it off in your profile settings.

I was using my MacBook Pro, will have a look at the location services, thanks. Just looked. I've got location services on for Find My... iPhone, Mac etc but not on for Chrome which I use.

Sorry I was not clear enough. I was using Macbook Pro on hotel wifi. Location services off for Chrome

For our security we monitor where people are logging in from. (IP Addresses) You can choose to display this location in the way of a flag, or you can hide the flag from public view. You cannot hide that flag from staff here, they will still see it whether you turn it off or not. If you want to disguise your location from me you could use a VPN.

I don't know about Apple OS but Google Maps tracks your movements, activities and destinations pretty accurately... it's under "timeline".
Eg:

You can turn it off (I think you have to turn off tracking in about 3 different locations)

But who knows if Google actually stops tracking you or just makes it invisible to you

Thanks for the info, Jim. I'll probably just turn the the flag off. I have not used a VPN since living in Germany to get iPlayer in the early days, not sure I could be bothered anymore!
