Fitting new engine battery

I have a 2016 boxer based unit and I am going to change the engine battery, do I need to provide a 12v supply via the under bonnet jump start lugs to preserve the radio code, ecu etc ?
Or can I just remove the battery and replace it without the above?

If you don't provide external power you will lose radio code.Should not affect anything else,but ?!?!

Changed my engine battery about six weeks ago (3L180 multijet 2014) one out one in no power back up used hah no problem
