Hi.
I need a new battery and I've located one at Halfords it's a Yuasa HSB020 silver, it's roughly the same size as the original and has a 5 year guarantee, the cost is £180 and the 10% discount. They will charge £20 to fit, but I wonder is it a case of just dropping a new one in or is their more to it?.

Thanks for reading.
Dave

More to it..

I had the same battery fitted at a tyre and battery depot .. £130 with free fitting ..

before disconnecting they connected bit of kit like an OBD reader , I believe this is to save parameters and settings in the ECU .. which can be lost if it has no 12v

Glad I did, it was a pig of job lifting it out and re connecting it ..

It's just heavy and in an awkward place but otherwise easy to do.
Keep the old battery it's worth £15 scrap value.

Get yourself a Halfords Trade Card then you will get 20 or 25% off.
Don't let them fit as it is best to follow the correct procedure when changing the battery.

After the engine has stopped and the ignition turned off.
Leave for at least 10 min before disconnecting the battery.
Connect the new battery and leave for 10 min.
Turn ignition but do not start the engine, leave for 5 min then turn off.
Leave ignition off for a few minutes then it should be OK to start.

I can't see them doing that.

If you have a tracker, set it service mode. Or you'll get a phone call asking if you're van is being stolen. Done it twice now. 😅

Only required if the battery is going to be disconnected for a length of time, shouldn't be a problem on a straight swap.

Thanks I'll fit it myself then, being a funster as saved me another £20.

fitter who changed mine connected the OBD reader as a precaution, and just as well, he had to replace the positive battery clamp which was corroded and being right at the back of the engine on the left and tucked in under the scuttle it was a pig to reach .. and lift out ..

so it was a good 15 or 20 mins before the new battery was connected.. that may or may not have been a problem, but nowadays I tend to let someone else do awkward jobs .. especially when it's FOC ..

DaveKerry Whereabouts are you. I'm based just outside Portsmouth. I've got a spare Ducato engine battery sat in my garage that you can have for £50. I thought it had died but was another issue entirely. Holds its charge well.

i bought one last month for £125
you can guarentee halfords wont be doing that. I used the spare battery connection technique dead easy. New motorhomes with start/stop smart alternators etc may need learning/programming battery but I cant find any reference to it in multiecuscan for Ducato bases

VanBitz suggested that I use Halfords because of the 5 year guarantee with them doing the work. These cab batteries are big beasties in awkward places so I was happy to use them. No alarms, no radio problems nd all done inside 10 minutes.

Did mine yesterday on 2017 Peugeot Cab - just a straight swop with a Yuasa HB019 20% off for trade card at Halfrauds. Got to be a bit careful as there are a lot of connections. The old battery must have been disconnected for 45mins but it still kept the Radio Code etc. I think I had inadvertently left the ECU plugged in which would have been charging the battery or lack of it.
