To many to mention
I am fitting a Chinese diesel heater and would prefer to connect to my existing van fuel supply rather than using the small tank provided. Has anyone done this and if so is there a standard kit available.

Yes, I've done this a few times.

What's the van?

On my old NCV3 Sprinter I removed the fuel tank and fitted a stand pipe to it but on the new Citroen Relay I just dropped a piece of pipe down through the breather.

All you'll need is a fuel tank sender stand pipe (if going into the main tank itself you probably want the ones with the larger sealing washer).

Depending on where your heater is mounted, you may also need some extra fuel line and I would personally avoid the cheap stuff that comes with diesel heaters. Either buy tygon or get the rigid nylon pipe.

I run mine though some split conduit on the underside of the van to give it some protection and fasten it with P clips. Well, on the Relay with the heater mounted under the driver's seat, the fuel line run is about half a meter and it's all inside the van, so it's not really an issue!

You need to cut your stand pipe to length, remembering that you don't want it to drain all the fuel from your tank so leave a couple of inches for the van to be able to drive with....

What vehicle..if it's Ducato type very easy

Plenty of how to videos on Youtube for fitting into the Ducato fuel tank so that you do not have to remove the fuel tank sender unit.
I recently fitted a fuel pickup in mine using the easier option of fitting into the tank breather connection.

I bought this pickup tube from Aliexpress for less than £3.

Also from eBay for a couple of quid more.

no need to drop the tank out of any motor with a plastic tank....run the fuel down low . get a realy sharp or new drill bit the size of your fuel pick up and SLOWLY drill tank as the tank is plastic as u drill the swarf will nearly come of in one long lengthc or 2.keep an eye on your drill just ever so slightly break threw ,then screw in your self taping fule pick up.plastic tanks are thicker than u think remember while drilling

Thank you all for all the info, we have a 2013 Citroen Relay so very useful information for OH who will be installing it. At present we have the gas heater but don’t find it very efficient and we had the diesel heater in our previous van so hoping for a warmer van.

Now we know the van ..I removed the access panel between the seats removed sender/pump unit drilled 10 mm hole between connections on unit fit pick up pipe into hole(type secured with a single nut,cut to desired length ...reassemble 30mins

Easy job then.

I did exactly the same as Two on Tour and it's been faultless for over a year now.

I haven't watched the video which may have covered this already, but the only thing to be mindful of really is to drill the breather pipe once disconnected in order to avoid dropping bits of plastic swarf into the tank.

It was a much bigger job on the Sprinter!

Sorry don't know chatteris - but if you've got anything similar to the removable cover in the video on the floor of yours then there's a decent chance you can do the same.

Assuming your username and location aren't too different, you're not far up the road from me so might be able to help if needed.

Interesting, I find the gas heating in present van better than the diesel in the last one quieter and less odiferous too, it is a smaller area to heat though.
