Off and on for a few yrs
Hello. hope i'm in the right place for this..My last vehicle motorhome wise was a Talbot..about 7-8 yrs ago did the job but the missus was always embarrased, took the odd grand child and they loved it.
After saving up, today we have £31,000. ....I'm really after this vehicle
He wants more than i have, i have emailed 3 times but had no reply, i asked if it could be a little cheaper..
Next week i will have another £1250.00 I know it's an Auto and maybe worth extra (even though i prefer a manual) how do i get this a little cheaper..Is it worth what he wants to the £..? Sorry if this is not explained properly...

Thanks for your reply.. the first is def a no no, the interior is hanging.. her words, the second one is nearly there, there is also one on ebay at £2900.950 ono but again i'ts interior...red...

Its 3500 kg as well , payload is worth looking at . No point buying a van if you cant even use it . Just saying (y).
Many vans out there with the dosh you've got to spend , i would ask maybe start another thread on fun as in what can i buy for 31k . You also need to get in and out as in see what they are like in real life .
Steve.

You may only have 2 seatbelts.
So if you want to take others there might not be any seatbelts for them.
As previously said rapidos have quite heavy interiors so you might not have a lot of payload. The only way to find that out will be to go to a weighbridge.
You should haggle price on any motorhome.

Sellers get lots of emails from people who have never seen the moho and most are time wasters. The only way to show you are serious is to go and view it. Then you will be able to start haggling. After all few people actually buy a second hand moho without looking at it first.

Your quite right, but if he won't answer my emails, then i won't find out.....

The payload is very important i know, same again, can;t get an answer off him, the seat belts, was hoping to get them fitted if possible by myself and even get the van upgraded...

I know i really need to go and see it, it's 3 hours away but wanted to get peoples view of wether it seems to much money for this van..and get a better price before wasting mine and his time by going down there and him not willing to barter... i think i'm going to have to phone... but what is the van worth? thanks....

You need to put a hold on buying a MH and first read up on stuff on this forum about what you need to check out such as payload, uprating etc as there is no way on earth that a large MH such as the ones you are looking at can be workable at 3500kg so unless you have a C1 licence or have taken a test to get the equivalent 'modern' version (ie if you took your test since 1997) the you'll have to do that too as well as uprating it to be able to use it. As for the one you listed you cannot retrofit seat belts as they are not allowed on side facing sofas as they are dangerous.

Please read, and read again about it all before committing to something - Jim has done a "buyers guide" which you really ought to check out as it is will answer a lot of questions and also give you answers to some you never even knew to ask and will save you from a lot of heartache and probably prevent you spending more money than you need to to get the MH you really want.

I just messaged Jim and found out that the correct place for subscribers to download the Buyers Guide and the Security Handbook is in the Resources section (not the 'shop') that way you can get them free:

I can't see any similarities between the 3 motorhomes in those links other than they are all rapidos
Different layouts , years and conditions all reflect the prices.
As @Minxy Girl said I would be patient hold off until you have spent some time really thinking what you want

I'd also suggest spending days out viewing as many vans as you can before you decide

If it's all the money you have, you don't want to be spending it on a motorhome at that price, no good pleading to the seller that you havnt got that much , it's not his problem, you should be looking at below 20 grand , loads of perfectly adequate ones about.

The price looks reasonable to me and it looks a nice van, milage is on the low side so it would need the mechanics checking over carefully as it has spent a lot of it's life standing around. Also after looking up the spec it may be registered at 3500kg but I think it would be difficult to run at that and be legal I think you would need to uprate it to have much of a user payload.
Motorhome dept are a broker people who have used them give them good reports but they had a sales outle,t a different company run by the same directors that went bump last year so tread carefully.

Wow! lots to take on there, thanks all for your advice...will put things on hold, i joined FUN last year if only to read the buyers guide that Minxy pointed out....but all seemed to have gone over my head 12 mnths later.(age?)
I have been loooking for the right vehicle for a while now, even though i didn't have the money..
I should have pointed out earlier really, i have C1 Licence...and am also ex mechanic, rebuilt many engines, lots of M.o.T. prep work, can paint to an extent, am a good gas welder, still have access to tools if needed.
Money wise, i have my wages every month as we live off her money, plus i buy broken washers and dryers off ebay, repair and sell them so not really worried about extras i need to spend on.
I am looking for an A class, exterior colour not too important, 4 berth, neutral colours inside, rear fixed bed, over cab bed, cruise control hopefully..is that a lot to ask?... i can add my wages every month which will make things easier as time goes by..thanks again to everyone for your advice, iv'e loads to learn and i realise that, sorry for droning on it's quite scary to think of handing over such a lump sum....(bank draft of course)

With £32,250 to spend during the winter months you are not that far off picking up a brand new budget van that the dealer needs to move before the 2018 models arrive shortly.

Those who don't ask - don't get. You may need to take out a loan for the shortfall but you won't need to worry about replacing tyres, brakes etc. and will come with a full warranty.

Very few budget A Class vans doubt if there would many in stock in the Uk.

Thanks Lenny. Agree very few budget A Class Vans around, but I’m not recommending a 10 plus year old A Class be purchased in this case - please view above comments.

With all the diesel restrictions being put in place throughout the EU lately I’m pointing the op in the direction of a new van which should have the latest Euro 6 engine as standard..

Even with the new regulations I'd still opt for an older quality van than a new budget one.

Are you willing to share the make and model with us - so we can all learn from your past experience? The older quality vans tend to have engines that produce high CO2 that the governments on both sides of the channel are looking to reduce.

Which out of the several hundred vehicles I've owned would you like me to choose from?

Cheap built or budget vehicles you compromise on comfort , reliability and residual value.....in nearly every instance.

Motorhomes are certainly no different
