Hi, I know this has been covered in many threads, I have read loads and got myself even more confused. Simply put, I am taking my dog with me via Eurotunnel to France for 2 weeks in June. I intend to go again in October, and again jan next year but for longer.
As I understand it, I can get a rabies jab, and an ahc in the uk nearer departure time. So that’s all I need to enter France, but I’d need to get a new ahc every time I travel. Upon return I don’t think I need to do anything? Is that correct?

Now, if while I am away I can locate a friendly vet, I could get an eu pet passport. If I did that and ensure rabies jabs were current, there would be no additional costs and I could use it to enter and leave France, but I would need to get worming done just before leaving France. Do I have this tight please

Sorry it’s a long one, first time Motorhomer asking silly questions I’m sure

When you are I. The EU and get the passport the vet may insist they give anothe rabies jab just in case the passport is questioned in the way out. That is what happened to us. No problem now in and out with the passport. The AHC is daylight robbery

Ah ok. Yes the ahc is £99 I think, and the nearest place to me is 25 miles away. There is one in Folkestone which would be handy but not open early enough for my train

You still need to do the worming thing with an AHC before coming back to the UK., yes?
Oh really, I didn’t see that on the govt website, maybe I missed it

Here it is 👍 also you'll need to get your dog a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before you travel so I'd get it done asap then it's done and out of the way, then you'll have the paperwork ready for the AHC.

By far the best thing to do is to get a passport when your in the EU,virtually impossible in France now but can be done in Belgium and Spain.

Thank you , what a blooming pain !! I guess I will try and get a passport while I’m there on the first trip, possibly lacking a French address to use which may be a problem

If they are giving your dog a rabies injection in France then try and get a 3 year option.

Ok will do, thanks

1) Rabies & AHC in UK to travel over.
2) Another rabies & pet passport in EU
3) Worming before coming back with both methods
4) Extra rabies no problem for animal
5) Don’t ever let UK vet write in new EU passport
6) Try & get a three year rabies jab in EU
We did ours at Pets World, La Zenia, Spain for €50 - you can overnight in the car park, & make the appointment by email. Lots of other vets do it, but some places only do one year rabies jab.
Edit - we gave a campsite address for the passport.

That’s great thank you. Here was me with my rosé tinted glasses thinking that buying a new (to me) motorhome and cruising around the world was going to be so easy! I’m finding driving and reversing a 7.5m a class stressful enough , let alone everything else that needs to be thought about. I will aim to find a vet a day or two away from Calais with a good car park!

Got passport in Spain but only 1 year rabies . Got 3 years rabies in France a few months later .

Some Provences of Spain can only do one year eg Murcia, but Alicante can legally do three years, as far as I know.
