40 miles up the road and the engine icon appears on the display followed by an warning message. Couple of hundred yards and we go into limp mode, fortunately not too far from a lay by. Sat there for half an hour having a cup of tea and tried it again and all alerts gone so on we went for another 20 miles and it cut out again. Somebody up there must like me as there was another lay by half a mile ahead so I admitted defeat and called out the breakdown service.

After 2 more cups of tea he arrived and found a P15BE fault code which is the Particulate Emission Filter deciding to shut up shop and go into limp mode. Happens a lot with these he claimed and said it's probably the 5th injector and the particulate emission filter plug relay. Googling it later it seems it does happen a lot and the old chestnut of supermarket fuel and the addition of fuel additives also cropped up, particularly with a neighbour who swears he's had no problems since using fuel additives after suffering similar problems with the EGR valve. My local independent can't check it for a week at least but suggested some decent fuel plus a bottle of additive and a good blast up the bypass may help clear it.

Filled up an hour ago, added the magic cleaner and off I went, with the wife opting to stay at home. I did explore another couple of laybys and only did 5 miles or so before I thought it best to get home and try another day.

I have booked into a main Peugeot dealer but that's a month away so hopefully may cancel if it's sorted before then.

Thoughts on the problem in general and the use of additive.

I'll get me own popcorn thanks. (y)

Edit: to add, it hasn't had a good run since November and did a few miles for a service in January.

You could try the"Italian tune-up" approach. Give it a good thrashing, ideally up a few steep hills with lots of welly.

Don't blame me if it goes wrong though. :)

That’s what I would do I think.

I find limp mode bloody annoying.

Either break down or don’t

Difficult when it drops into limp mode and electric bicycles start overtaking you.

When you had the service done did they re-set the counter? If not it would still count down and eventually go into limp mode.

You have to go back to it's roots.:D2

A white van ;) drive it like you stole it. Bob.

can you advise your base cab details please and year, was it a euro 6 engine with external add blu or older?

@Jimbohorlicks, It's a 2013 Peugeot 2.2 HDI which I think is Class 4 Euro. I did find out for sure once but forgotten again but certainly no add blue which as you say is the Euro 6.

Guess 2013 year might be Euro 4 or Euro 5?

My local independent who looks after my other motors raised his eyes when I mentioned DPF's, injectors and things and said they're more trouble than they're worth but then he's old school and not into the environment. Unlike the others which rarely get anything other than supermarket fuel the motorhome gets whatever it needs during it's travels so not necessarily down to the fuel creating the problem.

I did stick in a bottle of additive last night when it was a bit quieter on the roads and filled up with "decent" diesel and gave it a run along the A17 with the engine warning and limp mode coming on less than a mile up the road. Whether it was wishful thinking or not I appeared to have a bit more flexibility this time and revving and changing up gave me a bit more speed and I could manage about 30/35 instead of the 20 I had on Sunday. Given it was a single carriageway and more traffic appearing I only managed about 5 miles before running out of useful lay-byes and calling it a day.

According to the RAC it could be Euro 5 but it does say "most".
