MH
Autosleeper
Hiya. Following a decent amount of research and two hires of different styles of MH my wife and I have now took the plunge and purchased a nearly new 2023 Autosleeper Broadway EL. My question is quite simple.... any hints and tips you may have for our first short outing.

Hi and congratulations on your purchase, may you have many enjoyable trips (y) ahead I was too slow the corkscrewing has gone

Don't go too far from home and then anything you have forgotten you can nip home for ;) other than that, if you don't know just ask on here.

Our first trip out we left the kettle behind! However I wished I had left the ADHD suffering child we were responsible for behind.

To be fair after the first trip his behaviour was generally much less challenging than at home, and certainly a whole lot better than when we had been away in hotels or touring B&B in the car. I think it's because a bit of 'home' went with him wherever we went meaning he felt more secure. That first trip out was really memorable though. :banghead:

Welcome to Fun.

Take a pen and notepad with you and write down anything you need and have forgotten and also things that you don't use and can take out.

Anything you need to know, just ask on here, you will get lots of help and advice.

Most importantly enjoy your new home from home :giggle:

From the very start of owning my MH, I have all pots & pans, cutlery, cups, plates, flashlights etc etc, that stay in the MH so I don't have to pack them even if I take off at a moments notice, I only have to pack clothes, bedding and food...and I usually buy the food when I get there.
As someone else already mentioned...bring a notebook and pen and make a list of what you forgot to pack, what you need but had not already thought of, and keep it as a general reminder list every time your packing for a trip to double check you have everything before you set off.

Garden hose and tap connections to re-fill with drinking water, fire extinguisher, toilet chemical, flashlight, notebook and a few pens. Also...milk for the tea. As I told my sister when she got her MH, anything you forget on your first trip, you'll never forget it again LOL

Also, as some people may not already know ..but...when sailing on the sea's...your vehicle insurance does NOT cover your vehicle (regardless if it's a car, van, motorhome, truck etc) during sailing, your insured when on land, not sailing on the sea's :)

Hi, If you need any advice, we've got exactly the same motorhome :sneaky:

Welcome....+1 for the notebook (we have a pemanent one in the van)...+1 for the corkscrew (though to be safe we have 3)...keep it simple and never be afraid to ask fellow CV/MH users for help or advice on site.

As for forgetting loo roll...i have in the past taken an empty roll into a pub and errrr re-filled it...:whistle::whistle::whistle:

First trip...... Don't wander too far from home in case you can't get things to work and decide to go home..
There's no fun in a van without heating, hot water, cooker etc.

Hello, and welcome !

I think that just about everything has been covered.

If you are familiar with the locality that you decide to visit, then that might help ?

There are some 'silly' things too, like not setting all the appropriate switches correctly, so that the gas supply is 'OFF' and the fridge 12 volt supply 'ON'.

Not travelling with unnecessary weight, is another issue. No point having a full water tank if you are not going to be using it ?

No point taking the BBQ if the forecast is lousy, although I have indulged in the practice while seated under a brolly.

If you use bottled gas, don't carry two cylinders if you are only away for the weekend.

I'm sure there are hundreds of things that you can, and will, forget at some time or other, but it's all part of the fun, . . . . . . . . . . and life's rich pattern

Hello and welcome 👍

We have an earlier version Broadway EL.
Always a good idea to have the passenger watch you reversing and if driving on wet grass get out and walk the ground you’ll be driving over, it’s very easy to get stuck.

Good luck on your travels.

Welcome to the group. :giggle:(y)

When your packed up and ready for the off...walk around the camper to check the following and do this every time just before you drive off .....in no particular order...

Inside
  • the toilet is closed
  • Windows and sunroofs are closed
  • the fridge is turned to battery from gas/electric
Outside
  • look under the camper for items left under it
  • turn the gas off from the bottle
  • windows are closed and locked (check the locks are down)
  • the step is rolled up/taken in
  • washing/laundry is taken in AND the washing line taken down
  • un-plug the electrical cable
  • look up to the roof and all sunroofs are down and closed tight
  • the roll out canopy is rolled in
  • look on the ground all around that ground sheets and anything you had out is packed away and back into the camper
  • dont forget the dog if you bring one

If you buy shower tokens at one camp site, you don't have to return them as I find they work in most campsites so it's ok to bring them with you.

Walk around the van before setting off, even if it is raining, to make sure you have disconnected mains, put the step away, not left anything behind, that all your locker doors are closed. Enjoy.
I have as going to say check all roof lights are down and locked but beaten to it twice!

Once you know what you need and where they live make up a packing list locker by locker. We laminated ours so we could cross off as we checked we had everything. Laminating means it's easy to clean off ready for next time.

If you have a credit card or cash most things can be bought..... and many shops are open 24 hours.
