Hi everyone, we’ve just brought our first motorhome but I’m a little confused with the Fiat bit at the front, I’m not used to diesel but I know a little bit, it’s 2018 2.3 150bhp diesel but doesn’t have adblue, I’ve googled it and it says something about a recirculation system? Also it has no stop start ? Should these be missing on a euro 6 and is the 2.3 fiat a good choice or is there something I need to look out for ? It’s covered 17,000 miles so far
Thanks

Fiat Ducato didnt start to use add blue until 2020, they used a gas recirculating system from 2016 to obtain the euro6 rating.
No start/stop either

Until September 2019 Fiat managed to achieve Euro 6 without AdBlue and with various other systems de-activated. EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) was used to reduce the pollution level rather than AdBlue. In September 2019 a new more realistic testing regime was introduced to stop manufacturers playing the gaps in the old system and since then Fiats have had AdBlue, stop start and smart alternators.

I am very happy with my 2019 Fiat diesel motorhome, built to the old standard not the new one. I would say it was a good choice. If it is an automatic with a Comfortmatic gearbox then there are some regular maintenance requirements that some garages have been ignoring and might need catching up on.

Hello and welcome, please dont be frightened by what you read.
The twin egr system used from sept 2016 to sept 2019 (out of factory) was a euro 6 compliant system without ad blue. Is it a good motor? Yes ( i love mine and wouldnt want a later adblue version) and no its not without its problems and distractors. It is probably less powerful and more thirsty because of the euro sh1t. There is one problem that pops ups that you need to be aware of, the possibility of the LPEGR cooler blocking. This is relatively easy to diagnose with software known as Multiecuscan and a 30 minute blast down the motorway (logging data). Why does it happen, What can i do to prevent it? there are a number of factors, Comformatics are more susceptable For a period Fiat fitted the wrong MAP sensor , I believe there were batch related DPF issues over injection leading to damaging injectors with a number of ECU program updates (only done by Fiat Professional garages and not always advising owners).
What can i do to prevent it? Getting a copy of Multiecuscan and the ability to read your OBD2 port. What ecu software version is acceptable my current feeling is 28 for Manual and 32 for Autos. Fiat professional response is if you haven't a problem leave it alone. Monitor injector variation , LPEGR opening and temperature. Use Fuel additives such as Millers eco and system cleaners such as LiquiMoly Diesel purge.
Dear me look i what i found in the resources area

What software/ hardware do i need to read OBD2 Codes

This a much bigger question than first appears. If we limit it to what is a cost effective DIY solution to "read my Fiat and simple maintenance issues eg change the oil in my euro 6 or add a new MAF sensor" then the answer for me reduces to...

I don’t feel the need for Multiecuscan or worrying about things that might go wrong. Mostly they don’t, it is a good engine. If a warning light comes on I will get technical help and until then I will just make sure it is properly serviced.

Thanks all for your prompt and detailed replies, I’ve read the stuff on the link to the Fiat forum and note the bit about wiping the exhaust and checking for soot etc, I’m glad to say mine had no deposits 😁
Thanks again Richard

That's a good place to be.
There are lots of people without problems so not an issue to ignore it, but I prefer to understand possible issues.

Sounds like you've bought a good version of that fiat chassis, what coach builder is it?

Has the cambelt been changed? Probably about due.

Hi, it’s a Hymer Exsis T414 and it booked in this coming Tuesday for a cambelt, water pump etc all genuine fiat parts, the dealer missed it out so he’s agreed I get it done locally as he’s nearly 200 miles away and I pass the cost to him 😁

That's a result (y)(y)(y)

I've got the 2.3 150bhp euro6 without Adblue on an early 2020 reg, so it's the same. The economy is a bit meh. Although Shell VPower seems to add a couple of mpg, even though I wasn't expecting it to do anything. It's also tuned heavily for economy so it doesn't feel as peppy as my previous van. But I'm up to 22k and not had an issue yet.
