Don’t own one yet.
Hi everybody, first post here and i’m sure you get this question all the time so please be patient with me.

I’m a Brit that’s been living in Spain/Catalonia for almost 2 years now and am looking at buying a motorhome to full time in for a while once my rental contract is up. I’d probably be buying in the UK as I have to come back to sell my car anyway although am not opposed to buying abroad. It’ll be me and my partner living in the van full time, plan to move around a bit but also park up off grid at a spot a friend of mine stays in his van.

I’ve owned and built a few box vans over the years so aren’t a complete novice but I’ve never owned a motorhome and was after some advice on models to look out for etc. Looking to spend around £15-18k.

Many thanks

The plan is to full time in Spain - in the sun haha. Im an avid rock climber/boulderer so I’ll spend half the time parked up at the climbing spots with other vans. It’ll just be the two of us but it needs to be big enough to be comfortable but not unwieldy that it can’t fit anywhere. I guess I should go to a dealership and take a look around all the different offerings.

I just wasn’t sure if there’s any models that I should steer clear from etc or others I should look out for in particular?

If I were you I’d be looking at something like this old Hymer .

Thanks. I’ve seen a few Bessacarrs for sale at around £17k on eBay. Are they worth looking into?

Have you had a good look in Spain? I'd imagine an older moho that has lived its life in Spain may well be a better proposition than one that has lived its life in wetter-damper UK. Just a thought

I used to own a 7.5t Mercedes vario that I built into a camper so I did the relevant license back then which is handy. You might be right about looking in Spain, I imagine they’ll be less likely to have damp/rust issues.

Perhaps look at France too? We now live in France and bought ours 18mths ago...for 20%+ less than identical in the UK.
