I have a 4k Firestick with the power lead plugged into the TV USB Port. My question is how do you know when it is NOT live streaming from my WIFI system when not in use? Do you just unplug the power lead or by using the Firestick remote to turn it off?

TA Steve

I always assumed when the TV was turned off the USB power to the Firestick went off too as when I turn the TV on the Firestick fires up.

That’s correct - the USB ports on my (Samsung) TVs are dead when the tv is off.

Steve, the answer to your question has been provided by the previous two posters. (y)

Because our 4K Firestick wasn't functioning correctly from the TV's 5v USB socket, I set up a stand alone 12v supply, just for the Firestick.
As I found out by accident, even turning off the Firestick using the remote, if the 12v supply is interrupted but then reinstated, the Firestick fires up (pun intended ;) ), and can unwittingly use data.

In that situation, you can go into settings, and make adjustments to prevent unnecessary data usage.

So if I put the TV in standby mode the Firestick will not use any data? Or does the TV have to be off completely?

Thanks again S

It may do Steve, as it will still be receiving power..........unless you have ensured it is in sleep mode via it's own remote.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Power off to usb whilst tv in standby.

Of course there are a small number of tvs which can power through hdmi, no idea how. I have a Sony tv at home and I don’t need usb to power the firestick, plug it in and it works. Sorry to chuck that in. 😞
