We live in the Dordogne in France so we bought a 1 year old french built Le Voyageur moho. It came fitted with a sat. dish and a decoder that would only tune to french programmes, so we changed the decoder and can now get Astra 28. However, living in France our target destination is usually Spain or Italy and in these countries our system works intermittently or not at all. I've read on the forum lots of recommendations for a Firestick but I have no knowledge of these or what is involved. Are there any members in France that can share their experience or advice with this, as I'm concerned that if I go ahead and acquire a french Firestick I'll only get french programmes. Any advice is very welcome.

I don’t know the answer but could you get a UK fire stick and run it using a VPN

Don’t think owners of Firesticks who travel in different countries find it changes how it works.

Mine’s only been in the UK but apart from having a UK amazon account I don’t think how it works would change if it was moved to France

I think firestick is a firestick, and probably has a language setting in it. It is simply a means of accessing content on the Internet (you will of course need some form of Internet to access tether a mobile or site WiFi)

We use ours all over, works the same regardless.

What you can watch will depend on which service you choose to use i.e. Netflix, Apple, Amazon etc.
For instance if utilising an Amazon France account, whilst you can set the language to English the content offered will be French language targeted, however it is still possible to get the likes of the Clarkson type of content but so far as I'm aware not all of the content that is supplied via a UK account.

Prime & Netflix will work fine but if you want to watch UK TV channels or catch up you will need a VPN if using a French sim, OK with a UK sim.

I have used a fire stick for a few years in France.
On the second one now, but always purchased them in the U.K, sent to a U.K. Address, then had them sent to France. I believe the FireStick is set to your Amazon account location for all the Apps etc.
If you want English channels you will need a VPN or a smart DNS.
They take a bit of setting up, but once done work well if you have a good internet speed.
Plenty of good YouTube videos on how to set up your FireStick for working outside the U.K.
I am no expert, so could be wrong, but it works well for me down in the Pyrénées..
Never tried it whilst traveling in the Motorhome in Spain yet.
Good luck...

A word of caution. Our friends moved back to the UK earlier this year after 20 years in France. They bought a UK firestick and found that they couldn't set up apps for the main UK channels. The reason was because their Amazon account was still based on their old French address. Amazon changed their account to their new UK address and bingo it now works normally.

That doesn't appear to happen with Netflix, we use our daughters account and she lives in Thailand.

Another consideration. They use around 1gb of data per hour so you need a decent amount of data on your SIM to use one regularly. An EU SIM (or local wi-fi) with a VPN to enable you to access UK content would be ideal.

This site is handy for explaining how to reduce Firestick data consumption.

I find if I manually turn down the streaming settings to 480i/256kb in the youtube etc app it uses considerably less than that.
Mind you, I only have 20" TV in the van, so that resolution might not work for you if you have bigger TV

We have used our UK Amazon fire-stick in France, Spain and Portugal. To watch UK Programs is no problem but not BBC Catch up if it is not a UK sim. We had Vodafone 50 go per month. Haven’t been back since we left the EU. Set a fire stick up for our friends who live in France who had Orange.fr. They could watch the UK programs live but not catch up. If you get a firestick you can watch UK programs through Amazon Prime but you need a UK Account. There is a choice of program quality to reduce data usage in settings

Hiya again
I just checked and we watched about 2 hours each night of Sat, Sun & Mon on our FireTV on YouTube videos and Emby recordings and have used a total of 0.5 Gb of our 100 Gb vodafone allowance

Hi this is Mrs Reusables here 😀....I have a question about casting Netflix to our Firestick when in Spain. We are here at the minute and I downloaded lots of films to cast to the Firestick for the kids but since being here my cast icon has disappeared? Has anyone has this problem?

I can use my Firestick to watch TV but I want to save data & cast films that I had already downloaded 👀

You haven't mentioned what device your casting from, on my phone i have smart view if i click on that whilst the firestick is in mirror mode i can connect the two together and the tv will show whatever my phone screen is showing except for apps that don't allow casting like sky go.
