We can only used our fire stick when on EHU as it needs to plug into the 230V socket (we don' have an inverter etc).

But I have just spotted on Amazon a gadget the allows the firestick to plug into a usb socket on the tv. Reading the details, this only mentions home use. Has anyone tried one of these gadgets on a 12v TV?

I don't know how to attach a link but just search Amazon for 'USB Power Cable for Amazon TV'

I have ours plugged into the usb socket on our Avtex and it works OK. I have the resolution down to it's lowest to save data so some times a bit grainy but it does use up data (sat dish is broken)!

I don't know what you have but it doesn't sound like a fire stick.
Mine plugs into the HDMI port and is powered from TVs usb port.

I think what you mean is the TV doesn't have a USB port so
It needs a usb mains adaptor.

Just had a look at this gadget and it's basically a capacitor or battery.
Stores excess power and releases it when the fire stick needs more than the usb can provide.
You really shouldn't need anything other than a USB lead between stick and TVs USB port.
Try it with a regular USB lead.

We have a few of these Mission power supply units and they work great, they plug into the USB port for power and the output plugs into the Firestick power socket, they have a rechargeable battery inside them which is great, they are about £22

Ours has a USB lead that's attached to the 12v tv USB and works ok. Didn't know the firesticks even had a 240v power lead

I bought one of those gadgets but have never had to use it - still in its box . You fire stick usb to avtex usb (or soundbar ) works fine

Our firestick came with a short USB lead which is used to plug into the powered USB socket on most TVs

Same here!👍

Didn’t know, but Firestick requires a 1 amp supply, which might be more than older USB sockets can supply- hence the Mission battery boosting device
Very possibly.
I know when first setting up firestick they recommend plugging into a mains adaptor for extra power needed.

I had to plug it in for setup, but after that I’ve just powered mine of TV. That way I also know that it isn’t consuming power when I’m not using it.

I had to get one of these cables as the Firestick kept telling me it wasn’t getting enough power.
I have two spare USB’s on the TV though and this completely solves the problem for a quarter of the cost and less space than the Mission battery boosting thing.
I got it from Amazon but it’s unavailable at the moment.

Thanks for all the replies.

We're had loads of Fire TV over the years and I know the first ones (a box) came with a build in plug, no USB. Can't remember all the others apart from the latest ones that just came with the USB cable which I assumed I had to supply my own USB plug.

Gonna try running them off USB now.

The firestick will work OK from tv usb port for most viewing. I have mine running off an Avtex and LG tv.

But at times it needs a bit more power, especially for initial setup and subsequent software updates. Then you need a proper usb power source or that special lead.
