When i had uncontrolled flames from the defective fridge burner yesterday ,, the first thing i did was cut off the gas at the bottles ,, Then hit the flames with a dry powder fire extinguisher that is only 8 months old ,,, IT DID NOT WORK ,, no pressure,,, so i grabbed a 12 year old spare which worked flawlessly ..

i have seen this issue before at work a few years ago, the company I was working for ind 1996 ,had just had its annual fire review by Chubb , Many of the fire extinguisher had been checked and replaced and all were then in date . So company was issued a new fire safe cert by the fire brigade .

2 weeks later a fire started near an area I was working in when a lather caught fire ,, the operator ran away, but I called the Fire Alarm and then took 2 fire extinguishers to tackle the blaze one foam , one dry powder as it was an oil fire , they both failed with no pressure , another guy brought 2 more and one failed the other worked but he had brought a water one which was not correct for that type of fire... I then went next door and grabbed another Co2 and a Dry powder extinguisher which both worked and the fire was put out before the fire brigade arrived ..
So 3 out of 6 NEW fire extinguishers supplied by Chubb did not work even though they had just been serviced and replaced .

Always keep 2 , I am taking my failed 7 months one back to the supplier to see what they say ???

I used to teach firefighting course for ,merchant navy,Drax, oil industry and done loads of fire extinguisher courses.we refilled our on fire extinguisher except Co2.
Whilst doing courses we would sometimes have failures a lot being the trigger pin did not pierce the Co2 cartridge that charged the extinguisher,so possibly a fault for your new one.
Cheers Cris 🍻.

Yes ,, i did many mandatory fire training courses in the oil and gas industry and telecomms ,, Its suprising how many new Extinguishers fail due to the propellant charge not working ,, I have returned the dud one for inspection by the supplier as its not old.

Good that the 12 year old one worked perfectly .

Fire extinguisher are to aid escape .not to fight fires

The advice is get out . If my van went up I'd let it go. Or house or car .

Put a vehicle fire out once got a roasting from boss ..should have let it go. Thankyou for worrying about my safety .

No the vehicle is worth.more dead than alive.
