Finding places to wild camp off-road

I looked at Overland Bound - they have an app that's a lot like P4N but also has routes etc but it doesn't have much coverage in Europe :-(

They also have a forum that could be considered a MHF competitor (mainly) for Americans who camp out.

Finding bodies of water anywhere can often create a secluded ‘off road’ park up opportunity. There are often service tracks, secluded car parks and lanes with barn and farm building access. Much of it has undefined boundaries and affords off grid parking opportunities in our experience. France is amazing for this kind of thing. Canal and rivers are also great. Fishermen often create parking pull ins which most Motorhomers would dream of using, 4WD ensures gay abandon in selecting these!

Just don’t tell everyone else! 🤪

Google maps is my research weapon of choice for finding water. Then it’s Google earth to investigate viability! ✔️

Good tip about the water - there are some good legal camping spots near reservoirs in the UK too.

Like you I often use maps to spot likely areas for wilding, including water. Spotted a lake in Germany, found nice dry grass parking area, went for walk in afternoon, surprise - we were next to Eder Dam. Quite haunting standing between the twin towers and imagining Lancasters holding 60' over the water coming right towards us. Also sobering to read 1,200 civilians killed when dam breached.

You do not get experiences like that on campsites.
