Happy New Year everyone!

This is a picture of the where the water is pipped into the van using the hose where a water tap is available.

Question is, if we are at a music festival etc where i might need to fill up with a watering can etc, how do i go about doing this?!

Can i just unscrew the 4 screws, pour the water in, and then reattach?!

No, that’s for a Whale pump unit. If you unscrew it you will probably end up with a leak and there is only a small pipe behind it leading to the tank anyway. If you don’t have a separate filler, similar to but not to be confused with the deisel/petrol filler then look in the bench seat locker inside where that unit is. It probably has a large screw cap to fill the water tank directly.

Why not just drop the pump into the watering can or bucket, assuming you have the pump fittings

This is the Whale water pump unit which you may have somewhere, it plugs into that unit and you drop the pump on the left into a container of water. If you have a caravan you may not have an onboard tank, you have to have a container outside all the time and the taps activate the pump. What van do you have?

As other have said you need a Whale pump unit.

A positive, if you're going to be at a festival, would be that you could purchase and use a 40l Aquaroll with the Whale pump. Then when you get back to the van with your 40kg rolling tub of water simply drop the pump end into the Aquaroll, plug the unit into the side of the van and you're done!

(Failing this, purchase or make up a funnel with a piece of hose. I wouldn't try to remove the side cover.)

I just use a 25l jerry can. open the top of the tank inside the van and pour it in, using the little spout not the filler one. really useful when most of the outdoor water points are frozen or turned off.

Find your actual tank in the van and see if yuo have an access hatch and use a watering can at a festival, likely simplest option.

Just a further comment on this. The fitting you have is called a Whale Watermaster as in this picture.

It's meant to be used with a Whale pump (as shown in postings above) rather than just to stick a hose in the hole, I think. It has an internal pressure switch etc.

If you do want to connect it to water mains, then there is a bit of kit for this, called a Whale Watermaster Mains Water Connection. This would have the advantage that on the right serviced pitch you could leave it connected.

But I guess if you want to fill up at aires etc where you just want to use an existing hose things may be more difficult.

If that is going to be the main usage pattern you may want to replace the Whale Watermaster with a conventional filler cap.

Mind you, if it's say an older Elddis which may have only a small (circa 40 litre) on-board water tank you may want the flexibility of supplementing with an external Aquaroll using the Whale system.

Thanks folks, we have a Bailey 68 - 2 which has the hose pictured above. Don't have the pump but will start to research, we are booked up for a couple of music festivals and plan to take the van to Europe so just want to have a plan B in place. Seems a little complicated! , any benefit of the whale fitting compared to just sticking a hose in?!

No, and it's considerably slower than sticking a hose in. Fills about 3x slower minimum than a normal hose.

I also have a 66-2 and one of the positives in that model Bailey was they dumped the Whale fitting. Whenever we're behind a Bailey with the system I do try to tell them to just put a normal hose in tank as waiting for them to take 30 mins to fill, when we can fill in 5-10 is quite annoying.

Best thing you can do is repace the system with a normal filler, OR just find the access hatch for your tank (as many of us do) and just fill from above with a normal food grade hose.
