We have two gaslow cylinders. One 11kg and the other is smaller (not sure of size, prob 2.7) We have a control on top which allows us to use one or the other. The recommendation was to use the big one, then when empty switch to the smaller one as a reserve, and get filled up. We discovered that we were using the smaller one, and that had gone into the yellow zone on the gauge. Swapped over to the larger one (this is all last year) Havnt used a lot of gas, but we have difficulty seeing the gauge on the large bottle (it is sort of round the back of the bottle.)
Went to fill up with LPG for the first time with this van. Previous van had a underslung tank, but never found it easy to fill up. Gas cylinders were turned off. Connected to the LPG pump. Managed to get 60p worth of LPG in. Dont think it has filled large cylinder, and the small cylinder still in yellow. What did we do wrong?
(Fortunately we had filled up with diesel or we would have felt idiots!)

nnected to the LPG pump.

Not sure on your filling up as I just have one 11KG so don't know about how they are connected.

However, on not being able to see the gauge. I use my phone to take a picture of the level gauge. Stick the phone inside, take pic, view pic outside. Using a flash helps.

There's a few things it could be. First thing I would do is wait until you know both bottles are completely empty.

What is using gas? The big bottles will last a good while if barely being used.

Some pumps are very slow to deliver the gas and you need to wait up to 20 seconds with your finger pushing the pump button. Others don't have enough oomph to open your non return valve in the filler so won't start. The garage may even have run out of LPG. Might be worth trying a different garage

Thanks for replies. I will try taking a photo of the gauge. We got some gas, but the pump just stopped, as though we were full, which we weren’t.

You may not have been full but I'm not so sure the system would accept any gas if, say, your 11Kg was 80% full and small bottle was empty.

I have found my system was a bit temperamental until after a few cycles of completely emptying and fully refilling.

Some pumps are a bit odd, I filled up the other day and I had to squeeze the lever on the nozzle handle and also press a button on the pump itself at the same time. It then took a few seconds before starting to fill up but then was fine. I use a Mopeka bluetooth gauge for mine so I know how much is in there. It works well once set up correctly but it took a while to understand why it was inaccurate or not reading at all at times.

First thing you did wrong was hit the return key 200 times!

On a more serious note, we have had issues filling Gaslow LPG in a couple of places and had to get the attendant to do the fill.

One problem being where you had to connect the hose to the filler pipe (UK Bayonet fitting) which had to be held 'square' as if there was pressure on one side the LPG stopped (no idea why, guess not a secure fitting)

Another problem was where you connected up, squeezed the trigger, and then with the other hand had to keep a button on the side of the pump pressed all the time. In reality you needed two people to do the fill (or very long arms)

Another one was where you pressed the trigger and then had to lock it off and take your hands away before the fill started

Another variation is locking the hose on, locking the trigger and then holding down a button on the side of the pump, or finding the button is 2-3m away from the pump so that you are not close to the pump!

I find that you really need to read the instruction very closely each time before you start, as every pump seems to work a different way.

Yes, I tried to correct the 200 x line space and failed miserably!
There we’re two of us, me with the trigger, just to lock it in place, and OH with the button, which had to be pressed for a long time before any gas came through.
Does anyone know whether it only fills the cylinder you are ”using”, and so we would have to select the small cylinder to get that to fill? We can try that on another occasion but I just like to know what to expect.

It usually fills both bottles whether they are turned on or not

You may find you need to either hold the trigger open whilst button is being pressed
or
Lock the trigger in place, remove hands, and press the button and keep pressing it.

I thought all guns had to have a locking mechanism on the trigger?
We only fill up a couple of times a year, to be honest, I don't think I have seen two LPG pumps that work the same way!

Yes we may well do. The garage we use is in Grantham, where we live. So convenient, and obviously needs to be encouraged.
You could ask the attendant at your local garage to help you if they are able. Or try again once you have tried some where else.
There is lpg at Brownhillsat Newark They fill for you .and one in Sleaford which is not too far away from Grantham.

You shouldn't need to lock the trigger by holding it, it should lock in place on its own and just hang ( although I do like to hold onto the gun myself due to the weight on the bayonet)and then press the button. Just make sure the pump zeros first.
We always turn our bottles off and both just fill up. Only had your experience at one garage but filled up ok at the next.
If you have any cobbled streets in your area drive over them a few times to shake your bottles about.

We have to use the extension piece to fill up. Due to a protruding screw sometimes stopping filler from locking on. Might be wort a quick look at your bayonet point. Bad workmanship we know but would have to do a lot of dismantling to get to them to replace.

Thanks for all your comments.

I have read a tip for when one is using a screw-on adapter that one should position the gun at 3 o'clock position so that the weight of the gun and hose tend to tighten the screw on the adapter.

I have two 6kg Gaslow bottles. Came to fill mine a couple of weeks ago at Dover BP.

Firstly the latch wouldn't work properly and then the pump was really slow. I can see both gauges but just kept going until the pump stopped completely.

I understand that's both filled to the 80% limit. Both gauges in the 💚
