Does anyone have problems with filling Gaslow bottles? When I fill mine I get to around 70/80% and there is a blowback that stops me getting anymore in the bottles. I seem to remember in my dim and distant past that there is something about 80% but thought that was on initial filling. I've always had underslung tanks in the past (or Calor Gas bottles) so not sure if this is a fault or normal. Any thoughts/comments?

They are designed to do that at every fill. 80% is a full cylinder which will be filled to its stated amount. E.g. At 80% there will be 6kg of gas in a 6kg cylinder.
I only get blowback when removing the filler gun.

Do you get blowback BEFORE removing the filler gun? With the underslung tanks the pump would slow down to a trickle before stopping. Then I released the gun and got the blowback when disconnecting. On my setup I get the blowback before I disconnect. It fills as normal then suddenly I get blowback before any slowdown

I don't get blowback until I release the gun, thats just a bit of gas still in the gun basically so not lost from the gaslow itself.
If you're getting the release of pressure before releasing the gun then something is wrong somewhere.
Are you holding the button until full only or do you try and get more in by pressing it a few times?
Also, has this only happened to you once and at one particular filling place or multiple times in different locations?

I hold the button until it stops and don't keep pressing. As I say with the old system the pump slows and stops. Here with the Gaslow I'm holding the button down and after a while I get the blowback. I checked the guages on each bottle and noticed they were around 70/80% full - hard to tell exactly as it doesn't read in %'s . I've only filled the bottles 3 times and its done it every time. One in UK and twice in France.

hmmm does seem quite odd to me, I was hoping you were going to say its only doing it at one particular filling station.
So when you get the blowback and then disconnect the gun, is there another blowback or not?

Yes blowback, disconnect then another blowback. I guess I should take it back and get it checked out although the same dealer did a full Hab check in June and the gas system passed with flying colours but I suspect that is a leak check

Hmmm, I only get a release as I uncouple the nozzle otherwise I let go of the button and it just sits there, no leak 🤔

The 20% is to allow the liquid to turn from said liquid to a gas otherwise you’d get lpg in the system and not gas. 👍

yeah somethings not right there, if you are getting 2 the first ones from your onboard system, sounds like its a pressure relief which is letting go earlier than it would do normally. The second one when you release the gun is normal. I'd get it checked out.

I understand the filler tube has a non-return valve at each end, one being in the filler point. So it could be that the valve nearest to the fill point is faulty or has something in it preventing complete closure which will cause the gas in the tube to leak out when you remove the gun.

I get one release when I remove nozzle, which is expected.

If you are getting gas venting when filling are you keeping the button held in expecting it to fill to 100% and thus the pump is trying to overfill......I don’t know how the pump closes off. The cylinder valve closes at full eg 80% but if the pump is still trying to pump in gas if the button is pressed does it eventually have to release the pressure via a valve?

Your 6 kg bottles should take 12 litres approx from empty and the 11kg gaslow 22 litres from empty.
We have 2 x 6kg gaslow and the only blow back experienced is when we disconnect the fill gun.Never had a blow back whilst filling.when full the pump just stops (y)

Agree.

Anyway where have you been, not seen you posting for a long time until recently?
You are right I've not been posting for a while. Moving house, ilness, deaths in the family - all the usual things associated with getting older

The gauge only starts reading when the bottles are over ½ empty it doesn't mean anything when they are full. The float is mounted about a ⅓ of the way up from the bottom.

When filling you should release the button imedatly the gas flow slows, if you don't you can override the 80% cut off.

Are you turning the cylinder valves off before filling?
Good point Lenny
Never been sure on what position the valves should be. In this case I have had them turned off (always have them off while driving)

Not sure what this blowback you mention is but it’s not something that should be happening.
Where is the gas escaping from ?

It appears to be coming from around the filler neck its as though there is suddenly a blockage in the filler tube.
