hello all
i have had caravans and motorhomes but i am thinking of buying a fifth wheel as i have a ranger pick up i could use the question is
do most sites still take you on? and is there much difference than using a caravan
the reason i am going for a fifth wheel is they will build a garage in the back for my e bikes

Would it be classed as a caravan and stop you from using aires?

As long as it stays hitched up technically no but length would be a problem on Aires with marked spaces.
Yes, the length could be a problem, 30+ feet long.

They are massive in length, then you have the pick up truck to add on also. We have a couple of funsters that have them, so hopefully they will see this thread and respond also.
They are more like a static caravan size to me, more suited to America where they are built than here in The UK, cannot imagine hitting the narrow roads in the SW like Devon & Cornwall, then meeting on coming traffic, let alone getting round tight corners or parking in public car parks.
I would strongly advise to go see one in the flesh, have a test pull, or even better hire one if thats possible, no way would I like to try and get parked in an Aire, no way will it fit in one place, plus many campsites specify max length of 8mtrs.
Should be ok booking on most Fun Rallies though, as thats the only place I have seen them.

Plenty of motorhomes with garages that take e-bikes. Fifth wheeler would have all the disadvantages of a caravan in spades because of its size. More suited to a static rather than a nomadic style of touring IMHO.

We did look at them with the idea of selling our touring caravan and motorhome.

But the sheer size put me off.

I think they are more of an alternative to a static caravan.

That way, you are not tied to a site, with all the rules of selling back to site owner etc. if you get bored or fall out with the site owners or neighbours, you can move ot.

I have seen quite a few sited in Spain for snowbirds.

Ours was a small one less than 3m high and I think 7.6m in length no problem touring at all we took it to Spain for 7 years
