Hi when I collected new van they could only find one key ...they have sent another one out saying it needs coding to my van...its a 2024 fiat can thus be done without the a need to take the van to a dealer or is it easy to do...dealer says they will cover the costs ...thanks

Fiat must do it and it's around 350€.
They need the van and all the keys.
(The van should have come with two keys, the remote key and the other one without any button)

I think you will need to go to the dealer. I had to for a new key on my 2021 van.

Always take all keys when getting a new key added. The process requires all the keys to be re added when adding a new one.

Cheers, Robin

I enquired about a 3rd key for my Ford chassis MoHo. Bolton Lock Company in Westhoughton advise they can do that for £70 saying they would need the van for an hour to check all is well with the new chipped key.

Likely you can find somewhere more local but if not give them a ring. It may be best to be armed with a photo of the key if ringing them.

Best of luck sorting that. p.s. They ought to compensate you for your time unless it was clear from the outset that they only had one.

If the dealer lost a key then who knows who has got it and what they intend to do with it. Perhaps you should be having all the locks and keys replaced at the dealers expense, including the ignition and immobiliser.

I'd be asking your insurance company what they think.

We agree on most things but l wouldn’t dream of advising or asking Insurance company about it as they are capable of withdrawing cover.First thing they ask for it stolen is proof of both keys in your possession.

Which is why I would want all the locks changed so that I knew I was in possession of all the keys.

Dare I say you never know that even when buying a brand new vehicle. The dealer could get a copy, recode all including the copy and keep it, (or sell it to someone for a fee with the registration number and owners address)!

Not saying anyone would, simply that they could.

However, I was told that if a key goes missing and you code another, if the original turns up it would still open the doors, but would not start the van if it wasn'lt in the bunch that was resynchronised. That may be rubbish, but it does make logical sense as they always want all the keys.
