Hi the font of all knowledge, we have just been on a tour of Scotland and on the way back the xzent sat nav radio thingy keeps switching on and off rear camera and whilst sitting on the m6 carpark this afternoon some geezer says " oi mate ya reverse light keeps coming on and off" I take it this is when the screen keeps going onto rear camera. I think it might be the reverse switch on the gear stick?? Or wherever it is. Has anyone got any ideas??

The reverse switch will be screwed into the casing of the gearbox. It could be the switch, or the wires

Ours is a 2.8JTD 2005, the reverse light switch is on top of the gearbox but its hidden by the air hoses and the clutch cable carrier, not too difficult or expesive but as I recall there are a couple of variations in the threads
Had some pics somewhere but lets see if yours is the same

Sounds like a wire chafing somewhere, can you drive over a pothole or two and see if that affects it ?

Is it this one? I've taken the air filter out.

It's not the switch I think it's the head unit playing up as I've wiggled, tugged and pushed the switch and the reverse light doesn't go off at all.

With that switch disconnected does the reverse light illuminate? If not does it when the wires to it are bridged?
It could be where they have connected into the reverse trigger/signal which would involve you pulling the head unit and following the wire until you find damage or the joint. My joint is under the plastic floor beside the drivers door.

I've put the air filter back together, I couldn't disconnect the wiring from the switch, I tried but couldn't get the bugger off.

Is yours an autotrail on a ducato, I would think they would use the same loom for the majority of installations???

No mine isn’t. But I listed that info so you don’t assume that it will be directly to switch or the rear light it’s self, and that it can be picked up on in other places. The loose bad connection could just be back of the head unit.
