Hi all, away many miles from home (in oban) and oil light is flashing on our 2012 2.3 duato...
I change the oil/filter every year which is approx every 6k miles.
On the trip menu the oil service was saying zero miles...I have reset it using the throttle down/press break pedal system and is now showing 27843 miles.
Can anyone please confirm for definite if I should have been resetting this after each oil change or is it the oil quality that's been measured and it is in need of an oil change?
I have read that if this warning is reset twice then on the 3rd time it will go into limp mode.
Not wishing to be rude but I only need advice if it is based on sound knowledge rather than guess work as I'm 400 miles from home and if an oil change is definetly required then we will have to stop where we are and see if local garage can help after the new year.
thanks
Chippie

I have reset mine twice now.

I do my own oil changes and it’s every 6 months. It’s come on every 2 years so I am fairly sure it’s timed and nothing to do with oil quality.

Enjoy your trip. :-)

Service times are measured by oil dilution sensor. The dirtier the oil, the quicker the oil requires replacing. Items like EGR and DPF can exasperate oil dilution.
If you reset ECU to tell it that, the oil has been replaced, the oil dilution will eventually run the counter back down to zero.
I am not experienced with Fiat system, so don't know about specific limp mode question, but I very much doubt this to be the case.
How many miles do you intend travelling?
If the viscosity of oil is been effected by soot, the properties and protection the oil is providing would be reduced. Pull the dipstick and look at the oil to see. If it's treacle, then bush fix is to drop oil from sump into a double skinned bin bag and refill with new 5 lltr can. (Filter has not been replaced yet, as bush fix)
If counter shows 27k after reset, then you can monitor by that count down, as oil dilution sensor will change that figure.

Hi, thanks for your reply, the vehicle does not have a dpf filter as far as I'm aware..the oil just looks like oil that's done 6k, nothing abnormal.
I have made a note of oil service miles and vehicle miles and will see how quick the oil miles come down.
It's 400 miles directly home but want to stop away for another 10 days so that mileage is more likely to be 600/700 miles home.

I have the 2.3 ltr 2011 Ducato x250 engine. First service at 30, 000 miles then every 2 years or 30,000 miles which ever is sooner.

As long as you have oil on the dipstick at a good level I wouldn’t worry about it to much as you change it regularly and your are only doing 6000 miles😊

30k and 6k service intervals is all about oil type. Longline synthetic or old technology mineral oils.

Remember when you brought vehicle back for service at 500-1000 miles? All gone to save manufactures money.

We just had the same warning on our peugeot based van . I changed the oil and filter before we set off to Morocco.
When I checked the menu for service etc it was 0 miles left for the oil change
The oil levels are good and the colour is ok.
So did the brake and accelerator peddle depress and engine light on and its reset .I was intending to change the oil and filter again when we get home anyway.
But a good heads up on the post.(y)

Done 8 miles today and all good, no light and the oil service mileage has stopped the same so I'm hoping all is good 🤞

The x250 with DPF has 2 systems of oil change recording the Body ecu upto 9 tickets (changes before needing sytem to replenish) BCM and the engine ecu with the DPF oil system. These must be reset every 30000 miles or wll go into limp mode. I have a 2017 twin egr model that requires reseting by computor. multiecuscan. (just used it to check what a x250 does/needs. THe oil degradation system is an algorythim that monitors the type of use and calculates oil life there are no oil condition sensors other than the oil level sensor. I dont know what pedal or key juggling does. If the vehicle does not have a dpf it does not have the oil degradation system.

The same thing happened to me just as I crossed the Spanish border at Le Perthus on my way home. I phoned my normal garage, who I have known and trusted for many years, and the advice given was, if oil level is ok, just drive on. I travelled another 1000 miles home, in central Scotland, with no problems at all
