I am in Italy at the moment, in Sicily. I was washing the dishes and suddenly the water stopped coming out. The water pump tends to make noise when it is running and suddenly it does not do so anymore. Check the fuse box and the fuse was blown. I changed it for a new one, and when testing if it worked, which it didn’t, the fuse made a small spark and when I took it out again, I noticed that it burned again. Anybody knows what could be the problem? Could it be that the pump is clogged and is overheating? Is it an electrical problem and not a pump problem? Any information would be very helpful, I don't know what service I can get on the island. Thank you so much.

Welcome to the forum.

Ive no idea why your water pump blows the fuses, but the first thing I would do would be to find the pump and check the wiring on it. Maybe wires have come off it or are making a bad connection.

Other techie folk will be along soon to answer your query I’m sure. In the meantime it might be helpful if you gave details of your motorhome…….converter name eg Hymer/Autotrail and model etc.

It initially sounds like your pump has died and needs replacing or rebuilding. Can you easily get to your pump?

Thanks for your response. My boyfriend checked the wires and everything looks fine. He also checked the pump, and it looks totally normally. How I know if is dead or is something else?
the motorhome is a fiat Ducato Dethleffs from 2001. The pump is a Comet Lux Plus. If I have to change it for a new one, I need exactly the same or I can put an other one, like Truma for example...?
The water tank is under one of the back seats, it’s 100 let’s, and not to high, around 15/20 cm. It’s this bomb specially for this kinds of tanks?
above a picture of the pump model I have
thanks to everybody!

If you have removed the pump simply connect it briefly to 12v power. If it doesn't instantly respond it has failed. You can get one from any van accessories outlet - they're not van-specific.

Take the pump out of the tank and check the impeller is spinning freely, I'd doubt it would seize while in use but it might have picked up a small piece of debris that is jamming the impeller.

For those that know. Is it worth reversing the supply, to see if it does anything?

That is what I thought. So maybe worth a go if something jammed in it?
It's worth checking but a jam is unlikely to blow a fuse. My experience is that eventually water gets past the seals and corrodes the motor. Like all the pumps we use they have a pretty long life but fail without warning - I carry a spare for that reason.

This would be my guess also, but I've overlooked the simple things in the past.

Thanks to everyone for the responses! I think the pump is damaged. How you can si in the picture, the plastic inside is all dry and broken, so probably a peace of that is causing the problem inside the bomb. There are not can supply stores closer where we are, so we are going to try in a nautical house, at the end they boats also are mobile homes! I wil let you know how this end!

In the meantime, buy a couple (or more) of 5 litre bottles of water that you can use and refil and pour directly into sink.

Could I point out that you have used 4 of the 5 posts you get BEFORE you have to pay for your Subscription.

You have already received some very good advice from the Funsters on here.
Think of all the questions you could ask if you were to pay the ridiculously low fee of £15 a year.

Go On!!!
You know it makes sense.

Regards
Emmit
