Fiat Ducato 2008
I have a 2008 Fiat Ducato (Swift Bolero) with 46,000 miles completed.
On checking the service history the cam belt was replaced 2018..
Thought it was time for a replacement asked a couple of Fiat garages and have been staggered by the price…. 1500 pounds.
Anyone think this quote is are fair.
Please….thanks

No,sounds ridiculous it's not cheap but no where near that.

Don't use fiat main dealer garages and save a fortune.
if your van is an A class it will cost considerably more due to access problems.

Swale MOT centre ( used to be called Burgess) in Sittingbourne and replacing mine next week. They are a Fiat specialist.

They are charging £729. On top of that will be my MOT.

As my van is 5 years old and has a comformatic box, I asked about changing the clutch fluid and the gearbox oil. They asked if I was having any issues with the comformatic box - I said no. They said that better to leave well alone.. They find that people often have issues post gearbox oil change. I did ask if they were doing it correctly.. they said they have had vans in to try to rectify problems post oil change carried out by other garages..

Where do you live, people in your area may be able to advise. I travelled from York to Thetford to have mine changed after Jaws recommended a garage for me, if l remember correctly it was about £680 and my local garage quoted £1,600, so l had a mini holiday and still saved, getting fined for parking is another story (y)

I have just had a cambelt and water pump replacement including ancillary belts (2) plus a major service which included air filters, fuel filter, brake fluid etc. for £1500.00 at AM Philips Fiat Professional dealer.

Now before the 'How much' guys come and tell me I was robbed, this was for an A Class and in fact was about the same if not cheaper than a local independent when comparing apples with apples. Having had a fuel filter issue with an independent I felt a cambelt change warranted a trip to Fiat. I had the last cambelt changed at AM Philips with no issues at all. They are also looking at the Diesel Fuel Filter message which I still have and as it is a Fiat part may take it up with Fiat as a warranty issue. Things could go still wrong but at least I will have redress through Fiat I hope!

At the end of the day you pays your money and takes your choice ....

The Fiat Cambelt Kit is about £450. Fiat pro garage will only use genuine Fiat parts. I was quoted 6 hours for the job by a Fiat Pro garage. For a supposed professional this is a ridiculous amout of time. At £120 an hour. This would be about £1200 Inc kit. I'd ask for a breakdown of costs. I've just had an ex Fiat mechanic do it on my drive and he charged me for 3 hours time and used the genuine Fiat Kit.

Yeah, My was serviced by Fiat in Swindon as it's still in the extended waranty and as it has the later 9 speed auto box thought it prudent to alay any issue should there be a claim (fingers burnt by comfortmatic).

Anyway, as it will require a cambelt change next year asked what I'd be looking at..... £1000 or £1500 with water pump. Asked how they justify that price when is at least 1.5/2 x time an independant. Said we are the best and it's cheap at that price.

Waiting to have the chat about being charged for 7 lts of oil in an engine that only take 6.7 with filter but the dipstick says it's only about 2/3 up the full mark.

Had a cambelt fitted last week on Carthago A class, total cost at a local Shropshire garage
£415. 20 genuine fiat belt kit.
Apparently he buys fifty at a time.
There were four other motorhomes in for replacement cam belts. Currently two months waiting list.
( not really surprised)

Thats a fantastic price if it is a genuine Fiat Kit. Struggling to see how he can do it at that price even if he buys 50.

I am based on the Isle of Wight, so dealers have a monopoly. Having said that, the local main Ford garage took over a commercial garage. As they service our Fiat based ambulances I went to them. For a cam belt change, oil service and MOT, I came away with change from £700.
