Swift Sundance 590RS
We've just bought a rather elderly, but VGC Swift Sundance. Other than some cosmetic work, it seems really tidy. The chassis and bodywork are almost like new, so will it be treated to some Lanoguard and hopefully forgotten about for some time. I've given the sump a good coat of Hammerite, so that should be fine for some years. The only bit of significant rust is the front lower cross-member. It looks like fairly heavy surface rust so, with bumper off, ill blast it with the wire wheel and paint it. If it looks too tatty, I might just replace it. They are surprisingly cheap to buy. Has anyone done the same and is it as simple as it looks?

Not done it, like you I tidied mine up with red oxide and hammerite as it wasn't too bad. What could be seen anyway, there is some you can't see under the radiator.
I believe it's quite straightforward if you have the bumper off.
I'm sure someone who's done it will be along soon

Had ours replaced on our last 2005 Hymer B544 - a very common but easily rectified issue. I waxoiled the new one as there are areas to be able to feed a wax lance into.

Yes, got mine from Coastal Motorhomes Ltd, Ringwood. The old one had a very thin paintcoat so I poured cheap black oil based paint inside and outside the new one then allowed it to dry. Then I stupidly gave it a spray from an aerosol can, instant wrinkle finish! Think it will OK though. I also changed the mounts and squirted waxoil into the vacant bolt holes before refitting to give the chassis extensions a chance.

That's really helpful. Once the weather gets a bit better, I'll get the bumper off and see what state its it.

Can the sump be replaced without disturbing the gearbox?
