Hi all. Got an interesting problem with my fiat Ducato 2.3 2017 moho.

Started it on Saturday morning
( started strong)and then let it defrost and popped indoors to grab my coffee only to find the van had stopped running.

Tried restarting it but it would crank and not fire .
Put the odb2 reader on it and had 2 faults
Low oil warning Dip stick where it should be
Low battery . Battery management on tracker has said 13.5 to 13.8 v for the last 60 days
Cleared codes
tried again today strong cranking but not firing.

Different codes this time
P250a-38
U1405-87

2017 fiat ducato
2.3 multijet
3018 miles on the clock
Service and cam belt done mid 2024.
Full tank of fuel.
Oil level as it should be
Battery fully charged

Any help would be appreciated.

Andy

What alarm / immobiliser have you got? Anything after market?

Have you checked fuel pump cut off if your van has one (under glove box normally)

When you turn ignition on , Can you hear the fuel pump buzzing, ? If not that could be a problem.

Andymoho, I had this happen to me sometime back in the same sort of situation as you.
Try releasing the fuel filler cap, and as you do, then you will likely hear air being sucked into the fuel tank. I often hear this when I fuel up.
The Stellantis made vans like the Ducato and Boxer have a sealed fuel system, so if they roll over in a crash, then the fuel will not leak from the fuel tank.
This sealing of the fuel tank causes a suction in the tank when driving normally, and this suction is released at certain times at road speeds, otherwise the fuel pump will not be able to draw fuel from the tank.
If your tank has not vented when you park up and then go to run the engine at trick over for some time, then the suction in the tank is greater than the fuel pump can overcome and the engine stops and will not fire up again due to a lack of fuel.
If this is the case for you, then lease the fuel cap to equalise the air in the fuel tank, turn your ignition on for 10 to 15 second without trying to start the engine to allow the fuel lift pump to re-prime the fuel lines, turn the ignition off and then on again for another 10 to 15 second, and then try starting your van.
